LOeky,
Even if you make it down Saturday or Late Friday night....there is always someone up. My Entorage/camp will be.

that sounds great. i'll make sure to bring some sort of conversation slurring device. i tend toward Maker's myself.

first outting! should be fun!

so, what's with the creek?

Eric-Don't sweat the creek. It's shallow and the sand botttom is pretty firm. It's actually easier closer to the wave line. If you are worried, wait for someone else and cross with them. The oly people I saw get stuck last year were in a Honda Civic and Devin pulled them back up onto the firm sand. There were 2wd minivans beyond the creek so no big deal. The only problem might be if it rains heavily and the creek rises. Then you may have to cross near the outlet into the ocean where it is more shallow.

was no problem last year but now everybody wants me to bring the dang trailer, and the wife *will* kill me if I get water inside....
hoping for no rain and will aim for low tide...

(I did actually spend some time parked near the creek to watch people crossing or trying to... was hilarious, saw some sort of Tahoe or similar affair getting stuck going *down* the berm...
there was guy with an old suburban making $$ pulling people from being stuck nearby too... he was using *high* speed snatching techniques.. )

:bounce: I’m very excited to be going to my first Surf N Turf this year and coming in all the way from Chicago, Illinois at a distance of 2262 miles. :bounce2:
Although I will be cheating and arriving in on a plane and coming with some friends from LAX. :D

Good news:
There is no creek. There hasn't been for months.

Better News:
If we get enough rain there may be a creek. It broke through a couple years ago at night during Surf N Turf. That can be interesting. :)

You see, after it's been dry for a months the sand builds up which traps the creek behind it. When it finally overtops, usually with the help of large storm waves and high tides, it can come out pretty fast. It rapidly cuts it's way down through the sand leaving a pretty good vertical cut. I've seen them up to 10 feet high.

Once things balance out and a couple cylces of tides wear it down it's not too bad. In the meantime, crossing at anything but low tide is ill advised. A little common sense goes a long way. Ie; let the Jeeps go first, if they make it you'll be fine.

Oh yeah, bring the trailers. It will likely be dry, if not, just wait for low tide and stay close to the surf line. It's rarely more than a foot deep.

FEEL THE FEAR and DO IT ANYWAY!

P.S. Sand flags are available at a couple shops next to the park entrance.

I can see explaning to the wife why there is a foot of water in the trailer...

"feel the Fear" all right...

Worst case, u can camp on the other side of the creek and wave to us from a distance :flipoff2: . suck it up and bring the trailer.... about 200 cruisers says you and the trailer will make it across.

Random Question...Where do you guys mount your Sand Flags???? Ductape to bumper or other body parts does not count. Tryed to get it to fit in an old cb antenna mount but wasn't happening.

I remember that night...I was right behind you when you crossed :D
I don't know that I would've called it a creek that night -- that puppy was rather wide and rushing really fast.

Make that 199. I'll be too busy laughing to help tow anybody. Good luck Eric, you'll probably drown just as you are suffocating from the ruptured CO2 cylinder and your tires won't grip the sand enough to make any headway. Even if you do make it across, your beer will be warm because of the poor cooling performance of your propane refrig!

Just kidding, see you there. :D

Not 100% on this but i don't belive you "MUST HAVE" a flag to play in the dunes in a truck/ car. I belive this is only required for smaller rigs ie: quads, bikes rails ect.
