Anyone install one of these in a 60?
I bought one of those Quality Power - High Output Alternators for my 1987 FJ60.

Main feedback, it's far from being a direct bolt-in. J-bracket is very tricky (holding my comments for now).

I don't want to jump to conclusions as I work with the support guy responding my emails.

Does any body have use one of those? I'll love to see picture of one on those on an FJ60.

I sourced one from my local alternator rebuilder. Came with a pig tail to adapt to my wiring harness. Runs great, build quality and output is outstanding. Picture below with part number for reference:

Here are a few pictures of mine. PO put this on but I believe it’s from quality power they look very similar.

They said they are shipping a newer style of alternator as I confirmed by email and the pictures from this thread. Apparently it will have some benefits.

Currently waiting for the appropriate pulley as they ship with a 3/8 wide pulley by default while FJ60s are 5/8 wide (at least the US spec with power steering on the driver side and alternator on the passenger side).

This is what they are shipping

A bit of interaction here but didn't have the right pulley to actually install

It's been a couple of months, so I wanted to see if you got this issue resolved? my alternator is about to bite the dust and I wanted to see if the Quality Power alternator is worth it before I dump the money into it.

Later this week I'll have a prototype in hand to help with installing an early 80 Series alternator in a 60. This is the adjuster bracket since the early 80 Series alternator needs more room for adjustment. Once I confirm fit and possible tweaks, I'll be producing those.

Maybe not the direction you're going, but it's an option.

Does the early 80 series alternator produce more amps? I ended up finding a local alternator repair shop and getting my original alternator rebuilt. Definitely cheaper and nice to keep my original 60 series alternator, but they weren't able to up the amps on it so I'm stuck with 60A.

These are all for US spec:
60 alt = 55A (same lower bracket spacing)
62 alt = 65A (same lower bracket spacing)
3FE 80 alt = 80A (same lower bracket spacing)
1FZ 80 alt = 90A (different lower bracket spacing)

I too tried to have a local shop modify my stock 60 alt. He was able to use the guts of a 62 alternator I brought in and stuff it inside the 60 alt case, but that only got me to 65A. He said a complete rewind for higher output wouldn't fit. If you look at the above choices, the 1FZ won't work because the low bracket that holds the long pivot bolt is too wide - the mounting ears on the 1Fz are too close together. The 3FE 80 alt has the same mounting ears as the 60 Series range so it's much closer to a direct fit. The adjustment "ear" is in a different location, however, so it would require a different belt than the 60 alt and the adjustment range would be very limited ... or use the extended adjustment bracket (the upper slotted one) that I have a prototype of to eliminate that issue. That's a much easier bracket to make a modified version of than the lower one which also serves as the engine mount and AC compressor mount. All things can be solved with fab, it's just a question of how MUCH fab is worthwhile. Beyond that, there's different electrical plugs but Coolerman has conversion pigtails for sale.

My bracket doesn't solve ALL the fitment issues, but it addresses the most major one and that makes the rest of the work a pretty easy bar to get over when doing the 3FE 80 alt swap.

The 1FZ 80 alt = 90A should be 3FE 80 alt = 90A. The 1FZ alternator is completely different.

Correct, hence the note about the lower bracket spacing being different between the 3FE and 1FZ alternators. All of the Rock Auto 3FE alternators spec 80A. The few that spec 90A just get you a 1FZ alternator delivered to your door, so they have some things listed erroniously.

It is working properly now. The appropriate V pulley is a most do! As well as upgrading the battery to alternator connection as the old fusible link will not last long... Love the one cable setup... Support and Fj60 knowledge from Quality power is not the best but at the end I feel it is well worth for the money. Sorry for the late response
