That depends on when the Nitro’s were made
In the beginning they made quality gears
Then the company was sold manufacturing was outsourced and quality tanked.
Obviously easier to change the axles than the third.
But not by much😎

Bummer.
You went to Red Lake right?
How far in were you?

Well little set back. I lost Hi range no matter what I did just a little over 100 miles from home after Rubithon. Got home in low range. Could have used AAA but didn't want to wait. Today I dropped the old case and picked up a spare old case. Hopefully I can get it all sorted out before Solid Axle Summit #10.

How did it act? Did it pop into neutral and just not physically go back into Hi range? Or did it just seem like Hi range was another neutral? Just curious as I've not ever heard of that before. Since you mentioned the case flexing and hitting the tub, it might just be the linkage is bent or damaged.

100 miles in Lo range on pavement couldn't have been much fun!

Please open that case up and let us know what you see. I just had one open yesterday installing the 3:1 low range and 10% underdrive gears. Hard to imagine something going sideways in there.

Do you have a part time kit? Locking front hubs? Missing front drive shaft? Inquiring minds want to know lol!

It popped out of hi while driving. It would not hold in drive. I held my hand on the shift lever and it still kicked out of gear.

Spent a little time today getting things in order. Picked up a replacement cross member from a CCLC member Ken Hanna. I kid you not when I say that my Cruisin Off road belly pan skid dropped about 3 inches from the original cross member. Yes it was bent that much. Needless to say, I believe this is the main contributing factor to my transfer case popping out of high range. Replacement cross member mounted up. Slowly making progress.

Joe I had to beef up my Crusin off road skid. it got bent a few time before I did.

New T-case is mounted loosely. Still working on cleaning up the wiring before I torque everything down and re-install the belly pan skid plate. Had to bench press that sucker twice 💪🏽💪🏽.

If you put that in by yourself laying on you back and no trans jack your a BAD MAN
MADMAN 💪

And just like that, we back in business. Did a drain and fill on the T-case. Gonna put some miles on it and do it again. 1st test drive was successful. All thats left to do is reinstall my skid plate.

I’ve had the same skid plate for over a decade and several times straightened it by putting one end on a curb then driving up the plate. Finally one year I about doubled its weight with reinforcements. I like the simple design that doesn’t decrease ground clearance more than necessary.

Look what I found on top of everything else going on today. Time to bust out the grinder and Harbor Freight Titanium Welder. Geeze. 2 passes. Not my best welds, I will humbly admit. Might be time to beef it up with the DELTA kit.
