Substitutes for Toyota black and red sealants?

I will give an opinion that is down the center.

Starting when I was 15 years old (27 years ago) I was rebuilding motors at my uncle's machine shop. Rebuilt ~1k motors in the years I was there. We ONLY used Permatex (and FelPro gaskets) and there is only one time I can remember that we had to rebuild one of the motors we did. I don't recall the reason but it was a big deal but most definitely wasn't from failed RTV. I've never ever had an issue using it nor recommending it.

That all being said, I only use Toyota adhesives on my own futher mucking truck gawd-dammit! :flipoff2:

So why *not* use the Toyota sealants? Are they that much more expensive than permatex? (Sam/Onur?)

The reason I haven't is that I refuse to give any money to my local dealership unless I have to (for a variety of reasons, the main one being that they will refuse to order parts for you if they believe they are for a RHD...even if you give them the part numbers) and it's inconvenient to ship it in.

Also, I absolutely love "The Right Stuff" that is available in a pressurized can. It makes sealing up larger items (like oil pans) much easier. Not to mention there is almost no drying time.

Another solid vote for "The Right Stuff". Toyota can shove their FIPG up their asses and give it a good squirt. They won't sell it over the counter here in Japan since it is considered a North American product.

Fipg is about twice as much as the right stuff if not more but of no more value. I love Toyota but I've never seen such blatant head in the sand fanboyism as here in the 80 forums.

My neighbor is big into junior dragsters. Everyone of those guys swears by the toyota black stuff. They call it toyota glue. They use it to hold the help hold the head on. I've helped him scrape off permetex and use the toy stuff. I think the alcohol breaks the permetex down. Once the toy stuff sets up you have to use a hammer and chisel to get that head back off.
