I'm trying to help my son out here. He has a 2005 tacoma. He was changing his front pads for the first time. The passenger side had warn through, and without thinking while the calipers were off, he hit the brakes. Now we have a piston stuck out. What's the process for getting it back in. We tried channel locks while opening the bleed valve and got nothing.

Open master cylinder reservoir cap. Use a set of channel locks to push it back in. Close reservoir cap. You can use a wooden shim between the piston and plier if you want to prevent damage. Done it both ways.

I use hydraulic pressure from the brake line. It is more difficult on multiple piston calipers, but for those you have to clamp the pistons that move in place so that all of the pressure works on the stuck piston. Works great and no new tools necessary. Once the stuck piston moves, you can usually wiggle it out.
