Stories like this make me want to get an appraisal of my truck so we have an agreed on price BEFORE some prick gets ahold of my truck.

I'm thinking of a Tinytrac, has anyone used one to locate a stolen vehicle?

thanks alot, i think i've got about 15 adds both bj60 and hj60 so hopefully that will persuade them to give me a bit more money, they offered me $6000, but they are telling me that the winch and snorkel and lift don't change the value of the truck that much, and we all know that's BS:mad:

That sucks Mike . First the bs of losing your truck by some theiving vandals, now insult by the run around from icbc. It was a long term project you put who knows how many hours of time and a bunch of money into. I agree with John, show them the higher valued trucks including some HJ61's to make them understand you know what it's worth to you. Last time I renewed they told me they have additional insurance for accessories like winches, but it would add nearly 50% to my yearly costs .

Mike, keep a watch on craigslist, buysell, local paper adds, etc. Ya never know what might show up.

Sucks...some people just don't care.

From experience: Just keep civil and calm with the appraiser. Get all your paperwork (receipts, photos of your truck, ads for other trucks, etc), arranged neatly in a folder and give it to ICBC. If you bought stuff on-line or through private sales (your winch, for example), print the ad with the price and include it as a receipt. If you have photos of any installs you did, include them along with an estimate of how long each mod took you to install. Document an approximation of your labour in hours with a reasonable hourly rate comparable to around 75% of what a shop would charge.

The appraiser doesn't gain anything by lowballing you, but they want to clear the case as soon as possible. If you make a convincing case as to the value of your truck, and make it easy for ICBC to navigate your claim, they'll treat you better.

Above all else: don't get pissy with them!

Sorry to hear of your loss - that sucks. On the upside, you get to build another one.

The art of negotiations is never easy, some are very good at it, while some (me in particular) are not.

The best thing to do IMO would be to say something like this: "I feel that your offer is not reasonable as I have been looking at what is available for sale" show them your adds of comparable vehicles. "Looking at these vehicles, I see that the value for vehicles similar to mine are between X and Y. I also would like to point out that none of those vehicles have [insert your trucks additions here] which also increases the value of my truck which I believe I need to be compensated for [show receipts for as many as you can]. What I'm expecting inorder to REPLACE [emphesizing replacement value here] my vehicle is $XX,XXX. This number is based on the available vehicles which are comparable to mine along with the value I place on the addition which have been made to my vehicle ."

This is what I would try to say or something like this.

Yes I agree with all that.Tell them that your just looking to be made whole, not to get ahead from a situation that you had no control over.Call Steve and get an estimate of how much it would be to take one of those 6-7 thousand dollar trucks and bring it back to the level that your truck was in.

yeah icbc is really pissing me off, so if anyone has links to 60's for sale post them...i have been trying to track a bunch down

Sorry about the 60. I have been delaying posting my 1985 BJ60. Maybe it will help you a bit if I post it this week. Thinking of asking in the $9500 range. Might be a bit on the high side, but I learned a long time ago that once it's listed, it's a lot tougher to raise your price than the alternative.

I would take your time with ICBC. Get the amount you need. Every year ICBC seems to have record profits...a lot like the banks and oil companies.

well, i went to icbc today after work, told the guy i wasn't happy with the payout and that just the accesories alone would be in the thousands never mind the engine and tranny...so he was perfectly ok with that, looked at all the adds i printed off, and asked me how much i wanted for it? i was a little shocked at how easy it went, then he said "how about somewhere between $7500-$9000" which i agreed to and i get my check tomorrow after he reviews everything again and writes up a new check. If all goes as planned i'll have another cruiser within a couple of weeks. the only downside is my username might not be able to stay as "mikehj60" but hj61 would be sweet :D

ICBC wouldn't be too happy to know that the payout does to a JDM!!

Great idea Charles! Once its all settled you can do a bumper sticker: "Purchased with Funding from ICBC". Maybe a local news story with copies to your MLA. Also, you can send ICBC's new CEO a thank you letter with a pic of your new RHD. :D Maybe cc it to the dealer's association and a copy to Toyota Canada.

Vendictive? Hell me - no. :deadhorse:
