I just installed a SCION HU, and removed the factory amp (one beside the golve box). Does anyone know if this disables the signals to the factory sub and amp wiring harness?
thanks

I went ahead and ordered it from amazon a few days ago ($120 from dealercost) and installed the sw10 along with the pioneers. Not real impressed with the results so I ordered a new head unit too (DEH-P5000UB). I hear nothing below about 70hz.. I think(hope) there will be significant improvements with the new head unit and hooking the 'sub' up directly with the RCA cord and wiring power directly from the battery. Otherwise I will have to spend way more coin with amps and a custom sub.

I have it connected and mounted just like thugmusk except for the ground which I connected to some bare metal. It sounds like there is a high pass filter connected upstream of those rear speakers to me... either that or just not enough power from that tiny wire.

I would wire everything directly from the new HU, including power directly to the battery. I had enough power to turn on the unit, but not really to drive it, by hooking up to the stock power source. Since a modern HU will have separate sub jacks to use RCA and this is a powered sub, I wouldn't try to force any signal through the stock wiring given how easy it is to route the wiring to the front of the cab.

I'm also interested in the answer to SmokeDog's question. For those of us with Scion HUs in (which requires disconnecting the factory amp by the glovebox IIRC), can we install the SW1 sub using the factory connections back there? Or did the disconnected amp change that simple install? Anyone running that combo?

I installed the "Peel and Seal" in my doors and rear quarters last year. After a hot summer and a fairly mild winter its all still in place and does a great job of sound deadening. Due to the price I could afford to apply twice as much so I did the rear floor and wheel wells which realy reduced the noise from my MTRs.

I am not running that combo. But I do have an EWD. According to it, the factory HU feeds both the woofer amp and the "stereo component amp" with the rear speaker signal. The signal from the HU goes to a "T", one side goes to the woofer amp and the other to the component amp. The amp on signal is also tapped (T) for both. From the looks of it, all the signals (rear + and - for left and right and the amp on signal) should remain present at the woofer amp connection w/o the component amp plugged in.

Cool.

Any long term updates on how this is holding out and working for you? Looking at the SW10 for my LX450.

I want to order your Toyota FJ80/LX450 8" Subwoofer Mounting Bracket "Prototype" (just the sub-woofer bracket without the amp mounting), the checkout on your webpage is not working for me

I did the kenwood in the back of my '91 and it fits just like Nay's. Works well, adds a bit of bottom end and is invisible. I ran a new 12v+ lead from the fuse box next to the right side battery and RCAs from the HU sub output.

I, too, jammed one of those Kenwood subwoofers in the stock location ('94 LC) and it is working fine. Not real audiophile stuff, but it definitely adds some bass and has been working fine (and takes up no space unlike the big subwoofer beast in my '91).

Great Info, THX :grinpimp:

Anyone found a direct replacement for Rear 6" Sub using stock mount and amp?

I installed the SW10 version today and it fit fine after bending the bracket ends.

And, I was able use the stock wires from the subwoofer amp connector for the power, ground, remote power control and rear door speaker signals to work the Kenwood.

This woofer adds the right amount of adjustable bass to the cruiser!

I have some McMaster-Carr sound/vibration damping sheets coming for the outer walls.

The stock connector to the OEM woofer amp has:

12v = Gray
Gnd = White w/ Black
Remote on = Red w/ Black
Rt spkr + = Red
Rt spker - = White
Left spkr + = Black
Left spkr - = Yellow

Big thanks to this thread for the sub info! I picked up an SW1 off of ebay today on the cheap. Looking forward to getting it installed. I spent most of the afternoon laying down fatmat in the rear of the cruiser. That's some tedious work!! MUD as always, is an invaluable resource!
