My 2004 LX470 needs a steering rack replacement, CV Boot replacement (I'll probably just replace both axles), rotor replacement, lower control arm refurb, and new bushings pretty much everywhere. I'm also considering replacing the shocks and struts while I'm in there. Oh yeah... and I also don't have a working speedometer right now. Hah!

Removing/replacing the steering rack is my biggest concern. I'm curious if doing this all at once will help with access. Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated. I have the FSM and am planning to start the research tonight.

Thanks all...

As TM stated there is a long thread on R&P R&R.

I suggest you take a step back. R&R only what it needs replacing. Shotgunning parts, waste money, labor/time and good factory parts. Like your shocks. Assuming this is a stock LX w/AHC. They're not shocks, they're hydraulic rams which rarely need replacing. It's the globes we replace, when shot. BTW: We do not have sturt on 100 series.

Steering rack and CV boots are leaking. The rotors are definitely warped. Rotors, cv boots, and steering rack all need to replacing.

My main questions is does removing the axles gain me access to anything which would change how I replace the rack.

No! Axle (aka CV, AKA FDS) are not in the way.

If removing and replacing the outer TRE. Which I do ,with most R&P R&R. Brake dust shield is in the way, when using most TRE pullers.

Warp rotors, are best turn on the vehicle. Provide wheel bearings tight (no play).
