I thought I had it bad on my FJ62, but yours is worse. I would love to see more pictures of the welding, since I will be doing this soon. Are you planning to recreate the lower part of the panel or cut it off at the bumper level like others seem to do. I also have the rust on the wheel cover where it attaches to the floor. I think I can just cut it out the bad inch or so and replace. Please keep posting, very very interested in your progress.

Also, what welder are you using?

Im just cutting off at the bumper level like the drivers side. Im using a cheap mig welder running flux core wirer. you can use a sheilding gas but it has a harder time burning through all the old bondo and paint.

body work still not done but i don't care I'm going to build a snorkel.

Had some 3"*3" around the shop bud figured that would be a little to big so cut it down to 2"*3".

Got that tact together and taped where i wanted then to be. For something so simple getting the aluminum to stay were i wanted was a :censor:.

got it all Tig welded together and looks not bad. If my skills were a little better i would have left it at that but my puddle control isn't their yet.
so out came the grinder and got it prepped.
The next step will be the cap and then the polisher.

Then time to chop the fender. which sounds like body work again :bang:.

I thought my rust was bad. You are the man for taking on such a project. I just bought another body and will be making one good one from two different bodies. Will be cutting off both roofs and transplanting it on the body that has good quarters and floor. Not posted any pictures of the body work yet. Its getting there slowly.

fighting the rust

Keep up the good work and keep posting the progress. Nice to see someone taking on a sizable rust repair. Your's is almost as rusty as mine! My son was telling me that my cruiser wasn't doing too well as he put his hand in the rust hole on the door on Saturday...

Love your work on those wheel arches, you must have some big wheels to need the extra clearance or suspension travel which would add to making it worth doing it your way. I'm just finishing my HJ61 after complete body swap as the rust just couldn't justify all the chop and refits.I Made sure the body I bought was ENDRUSTED from new (1984) and must say was the best move I made looking into the future. I also re-fish oiled the entire inners and added a CORROSION GUARD electronic 12 point anode system which for the price around $200- hopefully will also help to REDUCE THE EFFECT OF RUST. Keep up the good work. Ole cruisers never die but am getting more disappointed that TOYOTA HAVE DISCONTINUED SO MANY LINES OF SPARE PARTS.
