And I usually end up breaking one of the little plastic tabs on the trim pieces.

Cable release?

The thing you pull on the side to allow the seat to "go down" grabbed this pic from a local gent that posted it, showing the handle but the reason for the pic, the dedicated ARB integration points. Handle seems cable actuated, is it or do you need to mess with it?

You don't need to mess with it.

yeah after the wife got home and i reviewed further, the above question was definitely the sqod, the handle portion, the unbolting helped.

Wheel Chocks question...

So I prefer to use heavy rubber wheel chocks when I'm climbing under my vehicle (even with jack stands, etc.).

But... The heavy rubber units from Harbor Freight smell SO bad...and CONTINUE to smell so bad that they literally stink up the entire garage.
If I leave them in my vehicle? The smell is overwhelmingly BAD.

Surely some of you know what I'm referring to...

I've left them outside for a couple weeks... No help.
I've bagged them... No help. It's like it "saves up" the stink in there and when I open the bag, it's 100x stronger.

So...

Who has found heavy rubber wheel chocks that don't smell awful???

I don't have any answers for you, but I laughed like crazy at your post! Very descriptive!

how dare you laugh at my stinky garage!

Easiest place to pick up constant 12V power in the rear compartment?
+1. To wire my air compressor for my helper air bags I had to run a line all the way from the battery. I pulled the left panel hoping that the inverter for the 120V power outlet was behind the panel but unfortunately not.

Thanks. I ran power for the fridge to underneath the front passenger seat suppose I'll just tap into that. Didn't see anything on the right side while I was looking under panels.

That's funny! I do know what you mean. I don't know how much they cost but I have airplane chocks and they don't stink.

Heh...
Did a little Googling, and it seems a TON of people are griping about wheel chock stink. Here's a doozie of a review:

"We returned 6 wheel chocks to Northern Tool today. Our camper, truck bed , and garage all smell like some kind of funky pesticide or strange chemicals. When we were camping last week, we kept smelling the "Chinese" product smell. After digging, we found some smelly work gloves, a cardboard jack stand box, a piece of plastic wrap for the gloves, a tool bag, and these wheel chocks (in the PUP front storage) - Every bit of STUNK! We chucked them, and the smell went away. Then we opened the tonneau, and the smell came out. We had a mover's blanket, a plastic encased bike cable, and two more wheel chocks that were the culprits. The bike cable was awful. We chucked all of it too, and the smell was gone. The wheel chocks were just emitting it like crazy.

Virtually everything we buy now has this or some similar smell to it. If the product itself doesn't stink, then the packaging does. Go inside a Northern Tool or Harbor Freight , and you will smell it. All of the products are from China. We have scoured the web for answers. Apparently the Chinese are using chemicals in the products, packaging, and processes that we band decades ago. They also hose down a lot of the containers with God knows what. Some of it smells like the resin plant that contaminated the air and water in DW's home town. It's disturbing to think about what the long term effects of this junk could be on us. It's in everything. The Chinese and other countries are making nearly everything we touch, smell, and taste, and they are doing so with virtually no restraint on their ingredients and processes.

We are so sick of it. Our house stinks, our truck stinks, and our garage stinks. We gave the chocks back to Northern. They did not extend a refund, and we did not care about a refund. We told them that we would not buy anything else from them that brought that smell along with it. We asked if they could smell the wheel chocks, and they said they couldn't. Then we realized that's because the entire store stinks. It hits you when you walk in.

Man, what a far cry from the smell of popcorn, coffee, Spanish peanuts, and confections in our old department and hardware stores that we grew up with. We really wish that America/Americans could find better ways to manufacture and make it in the USA. We would gladly pay more for it and do whenever possible.
M&K"

I feel better now. ;)

That there is funny! I use a brick but i have a couple of these as well.

Amazon.com: Camco 44472 Wheel Chock with Rope: Automotive

;) Ya... Really looking for something STICKY (no slip) that I can throw in drawers in the back, but that are big and absolutely solid. I know... you can grab rocks, wood, spare tire, etc. but in a rocky place, stuff can slip and move. I tend to travel alone a lot, and would be nice to KNOW that nothing is gonna move whilst I'm the gut-poppin squish-zone (under me rig!).

So far, I think these may be the thing:

Wheel Chocks - Laminated, 8 x 8 x 8" H-1591 - Uline

Laminated into a stack of rubber, rather than the injected-rubber nasty stuff that seems to all come from China...
Heck... Just walk into Harbor Freight. That nasty smell? Chocks, man. Chocks.

Why not get away from the rubber altogether?

Urethane Wheel & Tire Chock 11"L x 8"W x 8"H

HTH

My impression with them is they're more inclined to move. The heavy rubber and stinky stuff really stays put.

By the way... I do realize I'm making a pretty big deal out of a super rudimentary thing (wheel chocks ain't exactly rocket science). ;)

This is a great discussion! Bottom line: Smelly rubber crap from Harbor Fright is the pits!

I'm now rethinking my whole relationship with that place.
