Seasons greetings all!

I bought myself a new set of OME springs. It’s my first time replacing suspension so had a few questions that I hope someone can help with.

I hadn’t realised that I need to replace the rubber pads that sit on the spring seats, so I have to order them and wait a little longer. When I removed the seats, there was a little metal shoe that fell out of the spring guidance hole on one side, does anyone know if this is part of the rubber pad, or separate?

The top rebound seat looks a little worse for wear…do you think these need replaced or just grind down the sharp bits and a nice paint job?

I’m also planning to respray my wheels, they’re also in pretty bad shape, so I asked chat gpt to mock up a black and bronze options. What do you reckon, which is best? I think the black looks great but the bronze is cool too especially with the orange decal stripe

Hello, great looking truck! Regarding that plate, I would just smooth out the burr and re-use it. Also, when replacing springs and the associated bushings, be prepared for a potential battle getting the old ones out. I had to resort to burning my old bushings out with a combo of using a sawzall to cut the fastener. Not trying to scare you from doing this, just being prepared for the worst but expecting the best. There are lots of threads here detailing some techniques others have used. Regarding the wheels, I like the bronze as it adds some contrast and as you stated, compliments the stripe. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Cheers, James

Thanks James - I’ll burr it out👍

Do you know much about the little metal shoe that’s in the spring seat guide hole?

I’ll be sure to share some photos once I’m done, although, as you describe I’m currently at the stage where I need to remove the spring from the chassis, and it isn’t budging. Even with a frustrated hammer blow

There is no need to re-use the rectangular spring caps and rubber pads. In fact it is highly recommended to NOT use those when going to aftermarket spring packs. Those items are designed for the thickness of the original factory springs and seat and tension according to the thickness of those factory springs.

With thicker spring packs (like OME), those caps will be "floating" above the spring plates and the rubber pads will be getting overly squished by the u-bolt torque. If those rubber pads deform and break down over time, you could end up with loosening spring to axle fixation.

There is a separate round bushing/spacer available to keep the spring pin centered in the mounting hole. @cruiseroutfit has these available here in the states, not sure of other suppliers.

Ok, great. I hadn’t realised this. That saves me a lot of hassle I guess. I just need to figure out how to get those spacers for the mounting hole delivered to Denmark

Came here to say exactly this, so I'll emphasize it! No rubber pads/metal caps with aftermarket springs. Bad! No! Just get the OME "CBS01" spacers and you're good to go.

Thanks for the OME model number.

I’m glad I asked because I almost bought for of those pads

The OME ones can often take a bit of 'massaging' to get them to fit right.

You can make your own too, CBS01 dimensions are here:

Nice one…I think I’ll look into making them. I checked them on your site but it looks like shipping is crazy expensive for us folks here in Europe 😩

What is the “perch” pictured there in your installed photo? I assumed these were forced into the spring seat?

Perch = spring seat.

Spring perch is a common name for it here in the US

Well this topic cropped up at a most fortuitus time. I just dropped out my rear springs as i broke pass side main end of november. Didn't know driver side was broke till i cut the front end loose. N that's why i like the military wraps. Don't know what aftermarket springs they are, possibly OME due to partial lettering that i can see. My question , just confirm my thinking n reading, i can safely lose the rubber isolator by using spacer CBS01 in the perch? Also, that inverted channel betwix spring pack n perch, delete or keep? Are those physically fastened as they didn't drop with the spring pack? @cruiseroutfit , what all hardware do you have available re: leaf springs?
Just an aside, found a guy localish to me who's quite confident he can reproduce the mains to a "t" for a very reasonable price.

@cruiseroutfit , what all hardware do you have available re: leaf springs?

Everything, spring pins (many options) & hardware, shackles (many options) and hardware, frame and leaf spring bushings (many options), u-bolts (many options), center bolt spacers (we prefer stainless steel over the OME option see above), etc

Examples:

Thanks Kurt. Are the boys in the store tomorrow? @cruiseroutfit

You bet, all day. Give them a call, 801-563-1277.
Those rock-stars shipped over 125 orders today!

I’ve managed to get hold of a couple cbs01 spacers. But now I’m a little confused. I was expecting this to sit flush with the top face of the spring perch.

Also, if the spring pack sits directly on the perch, the centre pin on the spring pack will not go through cbs01 because the centre pin has the hex bolt on it.

So do I need to flip that centre pin? Or does cbs01 sit on the centre pin before the hex bolt?

Ah, I think I’m just being a bit dumb. This spacer fits on the axle perch, not this spring seat? So the spacer fits over the pin that’s on top of the spring pack?

Exactly

See my picture above. The CBS01 goes in the axle housing, not the u-bolt plate.

Great, thanks again for your help. And so nothing replaces the metal spacer from the original rubber pads on the u-bolt plate (I’ve been mistakenly calling these the spring seat)?

You mentioned that they need “massaged” into place, or some grinding might be involved. Is that to ensure that they’re flush with the perch?
