next was Moose, kiss a tree here, bump a rock there, here a jump and there he goes.

done.

then neil made his attack on the hill, a couple repositionings and he was up and over with open diffs.

then came the next challenge, getting the trucks up a rutted, slick, sick hill.
Neil was stuck so i took the ragtop and hooked a short tugg'm on and hauled his butt along side the rut and kissing the trees till we were up on the rocky hill top.

then Moose came over the radio and asked for assitance so back down the muddy hill i went.
i hooked on the short strap and dragged him though the ruts, up the hill and once i figured he had enough traction came to a stop.

note to self:
NEVER say outloud how much you love your truck since with in minutes you will regret it.
MAKE SURE everyone is on the same frequency.;)
MAKE SURE you wait for confrimation of the notice to stop :bang:

BEFORE coming to a stop. :whoops:
cause, it can hurt.:crybaby::crybaby:

s***.:flipoff2:

the i got another call from Moose "i'm stuck ... again"
so back i go and give him a gentle tug out, while he is looking at his steering (since it was acting up) i mentioned he should fix his flat ,,, seems when he tried to climb out of the mud hole he popped the tire off the rim.

with 5 or 6 tests with the highlift that wanted to keep slipping in the mud we finally pulled it up against a rock wall to keep it from moving. carefully we jacked it up again, lowed it down, moved it and jacked again and then shook the vehicle violently to make sure the jack wouldn't slip. tire change completed we traveled up the trail to catch up with the others.

they were nice enough to get a good fire going. cook supper at 9 pm and back on the trail after dark. still a couple hours wheeling ahead of us, it has only been 12 hours on the trail so far

and

the worst is still ahead.

then it happened, we are tired and just want to get back on the main road, it is pissing down rain, the ground is soaked and Matt did the big wheeling NO-NO. front locker engaged, tires cranked hard and heavy throttle and we heard the C R A C K echo through the trees as the birf gave way. :ban:

so, he kept trying to get out til one of the pieces of the broken birf bot wedged between the knuckle and the ball of the housing. no ability to turn.

platic bag down to catch the grease, yep
platic tarp to kneel on, yep
tools ready? yep
plastic surgens gloves on, yep

Doctor Matt is ready for the operation. :censor:
once apart the damage is apparent, the rest fo the trail will be in 2WD locked rear.

so by now we have a dead winch, no spare for Mosses truck, broken front birf, a 70 with open diffs and street tires and we arrive at the exit point to find a "Private property, you must ask supervisor in shack for permission to travel through"
no problem, we head to the shack and Moose goes over to ask the guy to open the gate.
the guy is swearing, kicks the door open (thankfully Moose was standing back as to not eat the corner of the door) and lays into Moose verbally.
Moose explains the situation and the ass tells him to go BACK to the trail and finish it since it is only 3/4 mile to the end AND even if he did open the gate there is another gate down the road and THAT owner will come out with a gun.

so, Moose makes the call and we head back to the trail. the last time i went up that trail it was nasty. this time Moose lead and got stuck BADLY so i drive down the trail, passed by Moose and went around the bend. in front of me is a hole... screw that... in front of me is a bloody lake so i try and drive along the edge only to slip sideways into the hole.

then the misserable old fawk in me comes to light.

i can not get 3 more trucks through this hole even if i do make it.
so
i go back to Moose, get the facts straight and then tell him to call the cops. I mentioned that this situation is now life threatening and even though we tried to be patient and polite following the rules of the sign, the supervisor would not open the gate AND there was threats of guns being made. we need the cops to mediate the situation.

personally, i was heading back and that gate was being opened one way or another and a fine of $150 for trespassing was an acceptable cost.

by the time we got Moose freed from the pit and back to the road, Moose radioed and said "cops are at the gate and they are getting the key" ... bitch'n.

so we make sure all cans are disposed of, all seat belts are fastened and insurance and registration is in order and approach the gate.

it seems when the cop went to get the key the super started yelling at him, a warning by the cop with a suggestion of a trip to the cell to cool off might be in order. 20 mins later, with a huge thanks to the 5 cops in 3 vehicles and we were on our way.

as we drove back the weather warned of a nasty snow storm coming so Mitch and I were loading up and heading home. 18 hours on the trail and now a 4 hour ride home in a snow storm was ahead of us.

loaded and chained we headed for the nearest tims to get a coffee and a sandwich, then the storm hit with a vegence, i had a hard time seeing the center line and the should line and with a transport tailing us we headed down the 400 at about 70 k/h. an hour up the road i couldn't keep my eyes open any longer so we pulled off for a quick hour nap.

the storm was over for a bit Mitch took over to Meaford where the second blast took away the visibility and turned the road to sheer ice. once again i took the wheel and we proceeded at about 20 k/h with the rear tire breaking loose now and then to remind me to keep it slow and steady.

once we hit Walters Falls it was decided to unload the ragtop and drive it seperately since the truck was fishtailing more and more the closer to home we got and we had some very steep icy road ahead of us. one particular hill i went over at 10 k/h and by the bottom i was doing 90 and up the other side it was difficult to keep the truck and trailer straight but with a blurping of the throttle i made it over.

it was white knuckling from then on till we were home.

i enjoyed the runs, i actually enjoyed the challenge of getting home. we were up for 27 hours and were beat, i could only sleep for about an hour and a half before i was wide awake again.

Monday was a zombie day.

thanks Dave and Brad for getting the group together.

Niel, your driving ability is vastly improved over last year.
Matt, a joy to do a run with you as always.
Moose, your daughter is a trooper, no doubt there and anytime, anywhere buddy and i am there.

Mitch, you have big balls to jump in the water to get the rope free, i hope your girlfriend warms them up for you.

cheers guys and thanks for the memories.

What a great Run! I had so much fun! as always my stomach hurts from laughing!

Wayne I don't see a need to redesign the tow strap carrier just make sure Mitch is there always:p

I really like the Pintle Hooks for quick tugs.

Changing the Birfield on the trail might of been the high point. :D whoops! I said I would try not to get really stuck! never said anything about breaking stuff!

Although when Wayne and Moose decided to call the cops I was shocked but it worked like a charm!

Moose great drive home on sunday =] but geezz you like stoping alot!! and I think the Moose cruiser might be faster than the HJ! what are you feeding that thing;)

Nick I was so impressed when you walked the BJ70 up that rock ledge that you got all sideways on last year! nice work!

Always great to see everyone! Looking forward to next time!

Matt
