Split transfer case question (2 Viewers)

I have a split transfer case and am putting it together. The shift lever going to the shift fork operates correctly until I tighten the shift detent ball/spring/bolt on the top of the case down and then it’s not shifting as it should. (It’s like it’s locking up the shift fork). Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Stock spring, ball & screw ? try backing the retaing bolt off until it shifts.
