I got tired of removing everything to get to the belts on my 40, so I split the shroud. This fix means you only remove 4 original bolts and it comes off, leaving the bottom half still firmly attached. You DO still have to disconnect the upper radiator hose from the radiator. If you look closely, you can see the two sheet metal receptacles (just folded into U shapes and tack welded on the lower shroud). These folded sheet metal pieces keep the upper and lower shrouds in perfect alignment. I did this mod about 4 years ago and it has saved me a lot of time and skinned knuckles.

I thought about doing this on my rebuild. Now that I’ve seen it executed, with a slot, I’m sold. Very innovative. Nice work!
 
I Kniped the shroud in my FJ62 a decade ago or so. Chad Knipe on the 3FE list innovated this for that group. I like the slot in this one. Next time I have mine out I'll work on a slot. Same with the 40.
