The way I check wheel bearing, to see if need replacing. Is during wheel bearing service. I first wipe races clean. Then inspect races. Any concerns with races, I replace the wheel bearings & races. If races okay. I'll then clean bearing and inspect them. Any concerns with bearings. Same, I replace the wheel bearings & races.
I have 187k miles so I guess I will inspect, maybe the needle bearing did go bad after a mud hole. I was chasing a rotational clunk ended up being a ring gear in the front diff. I guess needle bearing should be next. My FDS did have some marking on them but it I wouldn’t have thought that can be the case.

If noise doesn’t go away when shifting transmission in neutral and transfer case does that eliminate drive shaft possibility?

Good idea to add make yr & miles to signature line.

While coast in N, this take most of AT and engine out of the picture. Sound only when in gear, could be AT. But could be a bearing, that is loaded (has pressure continuous) when AT in gear.

We can play guessing games, forever. But a listening device, placed where you think sound is. Can really help isolate, and speed thinks up. Like I said. I use my old go pro.

I’ll attach my GoPro to the bottom and go for a drive let’s see if I can figure something out. I’ve never greased using the spindle tool on this car yet and I did go through so mud a month ago. Worth a shot so I can check that off as well

I ended up greasing with the slee tool and noise is gone. Also went back down a snap ring size thickness
