Speedometer Rollback?

There is a cruise control speed sensor in line with the speedo cable down near the transfer case. That could also create an issue. The part number was 88261-60010. It has been discontinued so if it is bad you would need to locate a used one. The only vehicle that used this particular sensor was the 91-92 FJ80 so resources are very limited.

just remove the cluster and pull the cable out disconnect the outer tube at transfer case and spray wd40 push the cable in and out and se how it works (do not use grease)

The Lubriplate 105B Zinc Oxide Engine Assembly Grease referred to earlier is similar to White Lithium grease in appearance, but white lithium is an oil-based grease.

I used a tube of speedo Lube I've had for 50 years that is AC brand Speedo Lube. It's in a lead squeeze tube.

This is a highly debated issue on many forums. White Lithium grease or powdered graphite seem to be the most used. Pick your poison.

Not everyone can have a 50+ YO tube 'o lube at their house......

To the OP's question regarding re-setting an odometer. Such an action, even though without intent to deceive in this case, is considered tampering and is a felony. The only way to do it legally that I am aware of is to have a licensed speedometer repair shop do it.

To add, it's been some 15 yrs when we had to do things without google, but Hollywood Speedometer is the name I had kicking in the grey matter (bought used speedo, needed it set backwards).

Haven't looked on the net, but they were a well known shop who would send a notarized document with your speedo, full description or work done & miles set to - so you had a real receipt showing papertrail for whatever you were doing. hTH.
