I've dealt with Liquid Off Road several times. Good stuff, no problems.

I've dealt with Specter. Marv is a great guy and he can get you stuff you can hardly get anywhere else. Plus, it sure makes my visit to the in-laws in the L.A area worthwhile :)

To paraphrase your signature, JohnL:
"No matter how good a company is, someone - somewhere - is sick of their $hit."

Used to spend big bucks at $OR than realized most the stuffs can be bought some else cheapers: OEM parts is cheaper at local Toy dealer with %25 discounts, other parts are cheaper too at local 4WD parts. Their shipping is just too steep, they're are my last resort.

Same here. If the parts (and particularly the shipping) were better I would order way more often too instead of dealing with finfing weird or rare parts here and there. I wish Marv or someone working there could take notice of this and get it fixed, then they could actually sell the pallets and pallets and pallets of junk and other stuff they have...

Well, TECHNICALLY, charging someone for goods then not sending them is mail fraud. Otherwise, nothing!

Pretty big accusations there. I've bought thousands of dollars of stuff from Liquidoffroad and no complaints. As far a drums on a 74 go... anyone done an axle swap? Most of these cruisers are so bastardized that you can't simply say I need "this" for my cruiser without intimate knowledge of what someone else has done over the past 30 years to your rig.

I will give you that 7 weeks is too long and maybe it wasn't handled the best way possible, but I would say all in all Liquidoffroad is one of the best vendors we have. Well, at least the best vendor that I've dealt with. I hope your future onlone ordering experiences are better. :)

I like DD113's idea on how to use Specter's system to get the most value out of your dollar.
I've ordered several hundred dollars worth of stuff from them over the past two years, first for my FJ62 and now for my 40. My only complaint, and it's a major one, is that their customer service has recently been a dissapointment. During the past month an order of mine was lost in the mail. Even though they found out well before I did, they never contacted me to let me know. Turns out it got mistakenly delievered to someone in another state. I had to call them and then go to the post office to find out what had happened. Fortunately, the PO tracking label didn't come off when the shipping label did. To this day, they refuse to call me back to keep me apprised of what's happening with the order. Why? They don't want to spend the money to do so! After all, they warned me about postal shipments. Well, excuse me fellas but IF you offer the service, how about working to remedy the problem instead of looking to affix blame on me or the Post office?

Hold on...I didn't mean for that to come out as an accusation...I was only meaning to make light of the non-technical discussion going on...

I am very frustrated with my experience with Liquid and won't deal with them again, but my energy ends there...

Herky, yeah I know lots of us cobble things together, but I was very specific about what I needed and I had confirmed with him when I called back to find out why the kit hadn't arrived with everything else.

Dave (beanz) - I like your paraphrase!

I too decided to give Robert at Liquid a chance. I ordered about $1300 worth of parts in early March (3/03/04) for my build up and for my upcoming memorial weekend trip.It took about 5 or six weeks to get the first part of my shipment. Kind of a long time but not a huge deal. I had a winch in the order and was getting antsy when it hadn't shown up. After a number of calls and footwork I finally got the winch the night before I was to leave on my offroading trip. It took almost 8 weeks to get it! Not to mention the custom fab work (and time I had to take off of work) I had to get done to get it installed THE DAY I LEFT! I got it on and used it all weekend.

but the story doesn't end there. I still havent received part of my order 7 MONTHS AFTER I PLACED THE ORDER. I still don't have any stainless front brake lines! Every time I call I get the story that he is looking for a new supplier.

I am not sure I will be placing another order. I feel bad because he is a nice guy, but when I order stuff from CCOT or Spector I usually get them within the week.

Sheesh, for the second time I have ordered from Spector on Monday or before and it has not been shipped before thursday. I even called to see if it was going to ship on Monday, and he said it would be "no problem"

I live about 50 miles from spector. Just got a weborder shipped in for S&H 10.00. I get 20 miles to the gallon in my truck. A hundred mile round trip would take 5 gal of gas. At 2.40 a gallon I saved 2.00 by shipping it.

Anyone else have problems ordering with sor.

What kind of problems are you having? They are pretty much the "gold standard" of Land Cruiser parts suppliers.

I placed an order and now they are refusing to ship the order. My local city are idiots and have 1405 park court and 1405 park lane down the street. Things I order I never get. So I ship my online orders to my friend s house and pick them up. Sor has a strange policy and will not ship my order to different address.

Well over 100 orders from SOR in the last 2 decades and I have never been delivered the wrong part. Call them if you are having issues. That said the only complaint I have had is crazy shipping/handling prices so I use them less frequently now days. My last order was a 2F thermostat and gaskets only and they nailed me $22 to ship... kind of left me feeling ripped off. :(

I called them and they were not understanding and helpful to resolve the situation.
So cancel the order and reorder and have it shipped to the post office. They will hold it there for you to pick up.

I've had less than stellar experiences with their over the phone service. mostly in communicating special shipping requests (USPS vs UPS) or ascertaining the quality of their used parts.

Very impressive thread revival skills...the last comment on this thread was made during the FIRST George W. Bush term!

After reading the issues with customer service at SOR, I had to chime in. I've place several orders with them, and have been nothing short of amazed at how GOOD their customer service is! I'm talking noteworthy good, on a level that had me telling my wife about it. It's rare these days to find a company that will take the time to answer your questions and not make you feel like an idiot for having asked. I even managed to order the wrong tail lights, and the guy actually berated himself for not having caught MY MISTAKE before the order was shipped! I could not have been more impressed by how that situation was handled.

I would and do highly recommend them.

I've never ordered anything from them but if you're having problems there are plenty of vendors out there. Remember that the parts of an FJ40 aren't that hard to find. It isn't a studebaker or anything like that.

I've dealt with SOR for decades
and all the transactions have gone
smoothly. Don't deal with them much anymore but I will say this, they have some of these other vendors, and I use the term loosely, beat all to hell. Nice thread resurrection, by the way!
