Knuckle re-build kit and rotors in the mail!

Me versus my front axle sometime in the next couple of weeks. My first work on the 80 since I've gotten her. Wish me luck!

Good luck! Do you have the right tools?

When are you doing this? Are you rebuilding the whole axle? I haven't dug into mine deeper that the brakes so I may be interested in learning a thing or two.

I would love to check out a front axle rebuild and help out if possible. Eventually my LX is gonna need it.

I'm hoping to get into it next Friday, Saturday, Sunday. I don't have all the tools yet. I need that 54mm hub socket and some grease, fluids, etc. so I'll pick that up this weekend. One thing is I have no plans to rush through it. If it takes me two days or three I just want the piece of mind it's done right.

Shoot...that'd be cool. I'll post up here when I get a more solid idea of the day I'm going to start and then let you know and we can see if it works out for you to come down. I'm more than happy to have help and a second set of eyes.

Are you gonna follow rebuild thread on FAQ? FSM? What's your plan of attack?

#OG - I'm going straight off the FAQ...yes. It's really well done. I found a video on here too to help me visualize the steps as well. Some of the part names were unclear to me.

Eric! You got an 80??

Haha! Yes I did! Stoked on it too. I got it earlier this year. My family is big now, 5 of us, so I needed a way to get them all into the back country. ;) I hope you're well.

Awesome! 80's are great rigs for larger families.

Eric, word of advice is that it will be tougher, dirtier, and take longer. This site will give you confidence but sometimes blind confidence! Look up in the sticky of this forum for my Birff experience.

Two tips, don't thread the wrong bolt into the knuckle and get those caliper bolts tight. Mine were way loose but luckily I didn't trust my work and had John of SD Trux check a few things out and he tightened them up for me and checked my hub resistance.

Good advice. Thanks. I'm not holding myself to any timeframe because it is unknown to me. My wife may be giving me a couple of rides to work.

I read that guys on here have used moly grease for the knuckle. Do I need different grease to pack the bearings than the knuckle? And where is a good place to find the grease? I checked the auto parts stores and they have moly grease in a tube but not a tub and it looks like I'll need more of tub quantities.

#BT - Read the sticky and got the grease questioned answered. Gonna take my axle job slow. Thanks in advance for the pain you went through. ;)

Impressive pea soup! Get it all finished ok?
