Glad you're ok, i bet that was a ride

Wow! Glad every one was Ok. Hope he makes it back home Ok

I was behind a car @ ~65 when it decided to lose it's front tire when the lugs sheared, he went into the grassy median riding on the rotor in a big hurry.:D

Bump for help in Boise;)

I'm in Boise. What exactly might you need a hand with?

I'm not AMMO- he sent me the pics from his phone and I think he's got a place to stay with a garage and whatnot, sounds like he'll leave the truck there until frazzled nerves are better and repairs can be implemented.

Thanks for the offers to help, I'm sure he'll be on here soon enough to iron out the details.

 'MUDDERS

What happened to allow this? Looks like the spindle nut is still on there.

dunno- here's the third picture he sent.

:( Thanks for relaying the post blume.

Bump for Ammo.

Looks like outer wheel bearings wiped out, and welded themselves to the spindle. When that seized up, the superheated axle stub snapped from the drive plate suddenly stopping with the hub. It likely would not have normally snapped (axle), but about then it was the temperature of the surface of the sun. Then with the axle no longer keeping the drive plate centered, it got off center and literally ripped the hub off the disc. With nothing holding it the tire/remains of the hub left the building, the disc hit the ground, shattered and jammed in the caliper. The wheel must have hit the caliper on the way off as well.

Looks like it was on fire briefly as the greases cooked off? Wow - serous carnage. The entire assembly including the rotor was wildly hot and it looks like the rotor melted into the pavement a bit.

Where's he going? Where's he now? Hard to help with no knowledge.

he's headed back here to Eugene, has a good place to store/work on the truck, I think at a co-workers farm?

and yes- it was on fire as it passed him at 75mph.:crybaby:

Keep us posted Tim or Ammo. Not that I can do much from here. Sucks, his truck is pretty sweet. Haven't met him yet, but have been looking forward to it.

I can help as much as possable. I'm in Kuna. He can stay with me to save money if need be . We have plenty of room. I have room and tools in my garage. Phil @ 208 899 3803

good luck, don't hesitate to call.

DAng!
I pulled the fronts apart to have the discs turned on my 80 and discovered the after-market outer bearings were toast on both sides, the inners were made in a different country but in good shape. The grease was a color-like blue, green or purple and looked pretty fresh and it only has 158k on the rig. The inners were usable but I replaced both with OEM. I don't know if they were too tight, too loose or just junk.. Hope this turns out OK for Ammo and glad he is OK..
Not saying this was the case for him but it sure made me glad I checked mine out..

Guys,

Thanks EVERYONE who jumped on this thread and offered up help of any kind. I have been gone from MUD for about the last 3 yrs., and its and AWESOME feeling to see the MUDDERS come out to support a fellow member.

It's pretty late and I'm shot as you can imagine.. But Tim got the story pretty straight, I'm flying back to OR in the morning, the rig is on a co workers horse farm in Kuna, Id just out side Boise. I will have to regroup get parts, and fly back to repair here in the near future.

I'll leave with this, seeing ur flaming tire and hub at window level to then take off at 75MPH is not fun. And don't even ask me how i didn't roll the beast... I will ponder that for a long time, but I somehow parked it exactly as shown here, nice and safe on the shoulder...

WOW.

Thanks again guys, and to the local guys I may need some help when I fly back for the repair party!

I want to do McGrew with you guys- hoping he'll have it sorted by then. Boise's not that far, and I know a guy here in town with a shop, should be fixed by then.

I'd be glad to help. But, I'll be out of town May 9-22. If you come back after that I'll help. We'll go hit some local trails as well.

Fyi there is a 93 at the Bargers on Garrity Blvd. Last I looked it had the front axle

P,

Good heads up, as luck would have it I think I had just about everything in the rig.... Never thinking I would snap a Birf at 75MPH, but I carry a spare... I will need a few odds and ends, Bargers might be the ticket. I also have a few buddies at Toyota Corp that have offered to help source some goodies... We shall see...
