So what did you do on your 25 this weekend???

BTW, what that the FJ25 that you were going to deliver to me, telling me that it was the one I had just bought off of eBay?? :D :D :D

Nah, it was probably this one.

The upside down T-bird must be a northeast thing. Every 25 I had seen was that way.

That's the one that started it all for me. There's a C-Clamp under the hood that's holding the wood hubs to keep the radiator from falling out........this is the only Cruiser I've seen with the frame rotted out in front......there were no radiator supports.

Well, she let me down today. I guess its my fault for not giving her enough love. As we all know, love = $$$. So essentially, I havent spent enough $$$ on my 25.

In thinking that I was doing a good thing by replacing the radiator cap with a NOS one, I essentially placed undue stress on the rest of the system now that the cap was holding correct pressure. I took her for a quick spin up to town and 3/4 of the way I heard a "pop". Then shortly after, started smelling coolant. I got to my destination 1/4 mile away and found that the radiator hose on the top of the lower hard hose had split in 1/2. Luckily, I was only 2.5 miles from home and limped it back, having to stop once to let her cool down. Good thing I have that lower radiator hard hose on its way to me. Looks like its time to do the water pump, and all of the hoses now that I've drained the coolant :)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh (big relaxed sigh)

I just got back from a 40 mile drive in near perfect weather with the windshield down through some great scenic Connecticut roads.

Life is good.

New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, reset timing and re-gapped the points. It'll run full throttle now without a hiccup. I took it out on the highway at 55 for the first time. Man is the tranny really supposed to be that loud? It sounds like its going to come through the floors :grinpimp: Gotta love straight cut gears I guess. The trip up to NH for the Yankee Toys Fall Gathering is going to be interesting to say the least.

Mike,

My experience with later FJ40 trannys show that worn bearings are just as likely to contribute to noise as are the shape of the gear teeth. I'd guess you just might want to consider maybe a trans overhaul at some point perhaps? :)

Nick

It's loud in fourth gear? Shouldn't be, don't forget you're not using any gears in fourth. Essentially straight through on one shaft so it would have to be a bearing. :frown: Want me to follow you with a spare tranny? :flipoff2:

Is gear oil supposed to look like whole milk? Thats part of the reason that the tranny was so noisy. I had a productive weekend.

Yesterday was spent cleaning out junk from the shop so that an FJ25 can now reside in it and not in the driveway ( wink wink )

changed tranny and transfer case fluids over to Amsoil synthetic. Tranny still shifts weird, but the binding has to be in the clutch. I think I got it down pat now though. Only I will be able to drive it without grinding gears though.

pulled tranny hump while in the process and found out why my e-brake stopped working all together. One of the bolts for the shifter mechanism was gone. Pulled all of the linkage apart, cleaned and lubed it, replaced bolt, installed good e-brake hub in lieu of the cracked one that I broke early this year when the driveshaft departed from the flange, adjusted everything and its working like a champ again.

Installed later model oil canister and new braided lines. No more leak!

Finally installed my oil bath air cleaner assembly and ditched the aftermarket POS filter.

Installed new exhaust system. Now that I can actually see my exhaust, and now I have correct oil pressure due to no leaks, I think I need new valve seals :(

I have a sense of accomplishment now. Where's the  ?

Probably should have flushed it before putting in the Amsoil.....sounds like water.

Time to oil that clutch! :flipoff2:

Mine gets a little smokey on a hot start or if idleing for an extended time....wonder if it has something to do with no PCV system? Because it uses no oil and there is no trace of any deposits on the plugs. :frown:

Didn't get to work on my rigs, but I did get to do some work on some T-Birds for your rigs.
