so I had these four holes...

And being the natural tinkerer and outfitter that I am, I just HAD to make something to use them rather than fill them in.

Location: driver's side of tub cowl, just above the kick vent. The one large hole was where my radio antenna was until last week, when I moved it over to the passenger side, just ahead of the hi lift mount [where the spring bushing that isolates the jack does a good job of keeping the antenna in line as well.]

So last year I was out at Land Cruiser Junky's house working on the LV when spdwaver1 stopped by to show us the cool water can holder he made for the back of his 40. I was intrigued when he told me that he fabbed it from a single piece of boltless shelving.

When he saw how impressed I was with the result, he went back to his house and brought me back a piece of boltless shelving to make one for myself!

Well, after debating for the better part of a year where I was gonna put said can holder, I decided those four holes would do as well as any. My water cans are of the 3 gallon variety, which sit low enough on the front bumper of the 45 that they don't obscure my headlights, so I figured they wouldn't cut much view out on the 40 either.

So out came the grinder, cut four angle cuts into the channel, bent it over in a vice with a reinforcement plate [to make sure it bent where I WANTED it to bend, and the frame was formed.

Again, utilizing the mount-friendly two piece running boards as a base, I cut a metal strap to length and grabbed some 1/2" square stock to use as stringer supports. The result :

After spending the better part of twenty minutes cleaning the rust off of the square stock [hey, it was FREE, just like the shelf channel] I threw on a coat of paint. Let it dry overnight, and mounted it earlier today.

A big thanks to spdwaver1 for inspiring this one!

Post padder!:flipoff2:

You know a set of bump stop extensions could save you from OIL PAN #3!:flipoff2:

I pounded it out the first time, so I'm only on #2. My new rig is SOA, so there's a mile between the locker and the pan.

When I cut the rear end down I failed to account for the locker motor. It luckily clears the u-bolt by a small number of millimeters.

Wait until you see it. It's badass. I still have to do the brakes before I head out though, so I'm not out of the woods yet. I'm cleaning up an unknown master cylinder, rebending the front hard lines, making new rear hard lines and installing unknown rear calipers. It'll probably work. :hillbilly:

I bet something like this would fit in there perfectly !

I'm sure Mickey Rubicon could provide some technical assistance on this!

Very nice:grinpimp:! Can we expect to see another exclusive Marksoffroad product coming available to the cruiser public in the near future:hhmm:?

This looks interesting but for those of us who are graphically impaired today do you have a shot of the holder with the water can in it? It might get us out of the "visualizing" mode into the "oh that's how it works" mode. Thanks.

Just gotta find the camera.

Or maybe one of the SNT pics someone took has it in it.
