I am interested in this too. Any ideas would be sweet.

I used three inch pvc and topped it with a Safari 3.5 inch head. I think it looks pretty good. I used quick fists to hold it to the body. The Safari top is nice in the snow and rain as it is designed to separate water from air.

Where did he get that one? Fabbed or bought?

I think he bought a 75 series snorkel and cut it down to fit. The angles are a little off and require some modification. Some folks use a plastic welder to do this.... as I think he did.

That is what I followed.. only I used the Safari top. I think it works better. I did not plastic weld, I just glued it and it worked the same, plenty clean too.

I really like the sherman setup. One quick question.

Why run it on the passenger side? Seems odd if you are running a stock engine.

I think on the Sherman version, he did not have a heater fan intake on the passenger side and he wanted to use that K and N intake that he had, which reached across the engine well and left room for his badass custom air box. I ended up using the stock air filter box and a 2" PVC fit right into it, nice and clean. I then just ran it back out the cowl vent on the driver's side. It does not get in my sight line at all. It does have a few turns in it, but with the gigantic intake head forcing air into that tube, I really don't think I am loosing anything in terms of friction. I actually noticed a little performance gain from the air ram effect. Or so I think ;). Unless a person uses a Safari set up from a 70 and cuts and welds it, there really is no need to weld ABS pipe. The glue essentially does the same thing, allowing you to cut, glue and sand those joints enough to actually paint the snorkel. You really can't see the joints once you take that much care with it.

Good luck Satanic Mechanic. I know you asked for non pvc/abs options :hillbilly:... but... they are few. I have seen other sheet metal fab jobs here on MUD. They look pretty nice also.

Link to another 70 series weld job. Looks good. https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-pig-preservation-society/69249-fj55-snorkel-revisited.html

Aluminum tubing. Very strong and its easy with two 45 degree bends and a diesel prefilter.

That's awesome. You know, spiders also have 8 eyes.

mine was supposed to be a 70 , dont know for sure got is used , used a hair dryer to heat it up and bent it over the fender , melted some pvc(black tie wraps) into the seam and re contoured it to look factory .
