Hey just an update on the Lenz Design snorkel; I didn’t have any quality issues whatsoever and it was painted to match in Blizzard white (paint was a bit off but what can you expect with a pearl paint I guess) but it did take awhile for shipment and I did use the autozone coupler to seal to the air box better. Don’t forget to seal the holes at the bottom of the air box for a fully airtight seal. The only reason I’m chiming in here is because I just found out from the windshield repair guy that the snorkel will need to be removed when needing to replace the windshield. Apparently the rubber windshield gasket goes up the rain gutter all the way up to the roof rack pillar and goes under where the snorkel inlet rides at the top of the windshield. Just an FYI if you live in an area where windshield replacement is common...

Thanks for the update - I am on the fence about the lenzdesign as well. Really dig the look but afraid I'll get a dud like some others have reported here and on Facebook GXOR. Seems hit and miss and they aren't exactly the most prompt at replies..

Hey yall, I planned on getting a snorkel for my gx and had seen someone say to seal the drain holes in the airbox, but I also watched a video of someone spraying their snorkel with a garden hose to stimulate a heavy rain and showing the water going into the airbox. It's there some kind of one way drain valve that could be attached to let water drain out the bottom but not let water come up into the airbox? Just curious... Probably wouldn't ever need it but would feel better about it.

To be honest I left the 3 little holes in the airbox open. If you are fording water with forward motion no water is going to reach those holes let alone fill up the airbox enough to suck in water to the engine. Now if you are standing still in water different story. But IMO you need to shut the engine off at that point.

I don't wheel in an area of the country where the snorkel is for water primarily. I got the Lenzdesign for the cooler air intake.

I really love the Lenz design. However, it took nearly 5 months to receive mine and parts of it look like a high school shop class did the work. I think I could have fabbed or 3D printed it much quicker and with similar or better quality. I sanded it down and painted both components, so we’ll see how the install goes

I have noticed they have all but disappeared on social media posts. I am thinking they are having struggles. Hope your install goes better then the way you received it. 🤞

Too bad about the Lenzdesign snorkels going to crap.

Anyone hear of a TJM Airtec style snorkel coming out for the 470? Looks like they offer one for the 460 and 5th gen 4Runners, but nothing for the 470/Prado 120. Definitely not a sleek as the Lenz, but a similar design that is still more low profile than a traditional snorkel.

ship has probably sailed given its a 10+ yr old vehicle and arb already makes one.
I’ve seen write ups on mounting a similar style snorkel from a 100 series to a 4th gen 4Runner. Would probably not be much different for a 470. The only issue is the complete lack of clearance where those style snorkels mount on a 470. It’s insanely tight and probably why ARB went with a traditional design extending further along the flare.

I used a 1st gen Taco snorkel and wouldnt recommend it to anyone with the level of difficulty it was to retrofit.

The issue I see with that type of snorkel is if you ever drive through a snowstorm there is no way you can turn the head 180 degrees to prevent snow from building up inside of it. I had first hand experience earlier this year in whiteout conditions. Luckily I pulled into a rest stop and noticed the snow build up and proceeded to clean out the head and turn it to face backwards. Not sure how much water would need to accumulate in the airbox before it gets dangerous, but I don't want to risk it.

Tldr: put atuds into snorkel, check template, before you do anything else.

I went w ironman and it seems like good quality... But the template doesn't match the studs in the snorkel. Gah!

I noticed this after drilling the holes.

Taking a break now and will solutioneer something on Tuesday when I have some time.

What do you all do for sealing the stock box around the airfilter? a gasket or?

I haven't done it, but I believe people just use silicon to plug those holes.
I left the holes alone - ran wires through 2 of them for my solar connection - but I figure that if I'm sitting still in water above my fenders, I'll have my engine off.

For me, the snorkel is to add an extra foot or two of fording depth, not to build a submarine.

And it'll take a while for enough water to enter a 1/8" hole.

I'm more worried about the connection from the snorkel to the air filter box.... Its probably also not watertight

Just finished mine.

Again: double check your template. Its close but I had to enlarge the bolt holes with a burr.

Also, I used a 3 3/4" holesaw. If I did it again I'd buy a 4" holesaw the extra 1/8" of wiggle room would help.

I got fancy and ran my solar wiring through the snorkel... That would have been much easier before mounting the snorkel to the fender. I like the end result pretty well.
