I installed a Smittybilt with the stereo bay in my 60 last week I made sure the rear seat would fold down and installed it "flush" with the rear seat lowered and slightly to the passenger's side to make a little more room for the hand brake. I wanted to make sure the cup holders and drinks would allow room for the shifter. My arm isn't completely on the padded section. I may move it up a little after I've driven more than a few miles. To mount it I drilled holes to mount it to the stock bracket. Niceguysanti had a god idea about using the extra plate for switches and gauges. I need to install a vhf/ham radio, cb, and a different stereo also. I'm not sure where everything is going yett.

i didn't cut the smitty box for the heater controls but I did relocate the fan speed switch by extending the harness. Te fan speed switch resides in the dash using a blank space that I had.

Nice man, glad to see that your cruiser is still getting some attention! You haven't updated your ROTW thread in a while:D

Moab this year?

Yeah... I haven't been posting due to work keeping me really busy. The Cruiser had no love for a while but I am back on it, trying to get it completely finished. I'm working on interior storage at the moment. As for Moab, I don't think I am going to make CM but I am shooting for Moab in the fall. I'm having a hard enough time trying to get to the annual meeting next weekend. I know that the fellas have a huge contingent heading there, I wish that I could swing it, I know you guys will have a blast.

On the smittybilt website it says that the console is 12 inches tall. Is this from the factory mounting base to the top of the armrest? (My seats have armrests so I need to figure out if it will fit or not)
Would someone please measure the thickness of the armrest pad on the smitty? I could always remove that pad since I have armrests on my seats.

I actually bought the VDP one from a fellow friend and FJ60 owner....he bought it for his 60 and his gf bought him a tuffy so I got it for $40. A little aggravating to get it in but I also have a short temper.

any pics of the install?

Just got my Smitybilt yesterday. Looks like a couple holes drilled in the bottom to match up with the 60s bolt pattern and it's done. I may be missing something but it seems pretty straight forwardJ
Yes, its super easy

Damn! Now I'm hungry ...

I'm happy with mine, but the cupholders leave a bit to be desired. Of course they are an upgrade from the square "cupholder" on the stock console.

Agreed. I like the console but the cup holders are a bit off. The arms seem to not act as they should. That being said its nice to be able to just have an actual cup in there. I picked up some cheap plastic containers with lids at office depot to use for storage. They fit the dimensions of the inside perfectly. No rattling side to said and no loose items floating in the cavernous inside of the console.

Thanks all for the comments, reviews and tips. Just ordered my Smitty!

Did you guys just use two bolts in the rear or did you drill more?

Nevermind, read back through everything. Missed it the first time around.

Answer is all four. Need to drill three new holes. Use the original bolts in the back two holes and the orignal nuts in the front two. Now to go do it.

Just got mine yesterday (31715 version with NO stereo console) and have to say that it is quite sturdy. The one thing that I am a bit confused on, and it seems like mine is the only one that has it from the pics, is that I have two holes on each side and straps. Now the thing is that straps have large center punch rivets in them (assuming for mounting) but I was not supplied with anything that will mount them. Oh well, not a huge loss.
