Smaller More Aggressive or Larger Less Aggressive Tires?

I just purchased an 03 LC and have been trying to locate 16" wheels to replace the 18's it came with. It's been really frustrating..done tons of searches and have a really hard time finding any.

Shouldn't have any problem at all going that direction! Post in the classifieds. I would have glady gone with LC 18's instead of Tundy 18's!

+1 on this. Additionally, I've found sets of OEM 16" hundy wheels for as little as $200 on ebay that seemed legit. You can score deals if you find the right seller.

I am still kinda confused on this. Whats the real differences between them? Is it just that E range can handle more wieght?

Thanks.

Yep and with that additional sidewall strength and consequently marginally rougher ride.

I also just checked out the Toyo Open Country MT's, they look pretty sweet but I haven't seen anybody here use them which makes me wonder. I'm gonna do a little more research.
I have just about worn out a set of the Toyo Open Country MT's.
They are a great tire in terms of overall performance. We have covered many miles of dirt and gravel roads under all conditions. The sidewall on this tire will take about as much abuse as your are likely to throw at it. They hook up well on rocks and track well at speed on gravel roads. They are excellent on road under icy/snowy conditions. The only down side I have found is that you really have to air down to get any sidewall bulge. The ride gets softer when aired down to around 20PSI but I'm not sure how much the contact patch changes. At 15PSI you start to see some side wall bulge, I'm a little leery of running that low of pressure. I'd probably drop the tires that low to get out of a sand or mud stuck but I wouldn't run them that low on the trail.

Be warned they are a truck tire and as such the ride is harsher and they are louder than the stock Michelin tires. You will definitely notice the difference when you drive away from the tire shop. The stiff side wall reduced a lot of the roll we had with the OEM tires, which both my wife and I like. YMMV

Speaking of mileage, at under 40K miles I am running on almost no tread. The tread is heavy enough that I trust the tires on the highway but they are at the end of their off-road life IMHO.

Overall I am very satisfied with the tire. I'd probably buy them again if the 100's role hadn't changed. In the future it will see far less off road use and more highway/street miles.

I have no need for a mud tire.

Nor do I though if you need traction the KM2's eat alive everything I've ever seen. Simply amazing.

That said...when my KM2's are pretty worn they're going on my 80 and the 100 will get BFG AT KO's once again. They took me everywhere and on-road they kick butt.

Regarding size, I have some Interco 31" SSR's (bias) on my 89 Toy P/U, real noisy...
I have sime BFG 295/16 on my wifes LC, speedo is all wacked out.
Your choice!

As TheFuzz said, you can find some deals; I found a set of 16" LX wheels for my Hundy for $100 on my local Craigslist. They were pretty ratty, but I cleaned them up w/ some stripper and painted them. They turned out awesome.

For my LC, I'm looking at getting a .5" to 1" offset from stock to avoid rubbing and these tires: Interco SSR
size: 35x10.50R16LT; model: SSR-41R;weight: 76; plys: 8; tread width: 9.0; overall O.D.: 35.3; rim sizes 16X7-9; max P.S.I.: 65; load: 3415
I had these on my expedition truck (f340 crewcab) and I loved them. Not too noisy and great in all conditions.

Since youvr had them both and the off road experience to go with it, do you think the noise and loss of mpg of the km2s are outweighed by their mud performance compared to the AT's? If their mud performance is only slightly better but milage suffers horribly then i would think about the ATs again.

yes, they may be loud, but they beat the AT's is every possible category offroad.

I'd buy them again for the 100 in a heartbeat. I hated the AT's every mile I had them. EVERYBODY RUNS THEM, I got tired of seeing them on everything from geo metro's to H1's

and yet another reason i love my destination MT's/ Not to mention the relative quiet on the interstate, the longevity on and off road, and the excellent traction off road. On my 3rd set between the hundy and my yukon, these handle great offroad.

ya, but aren't you white letter out :flipoff2::flipoff2:

HA yes they are, and i chose to have them out. I was born in 83 and still have a flare for the decade. . . what can i say

My first ride was a yellow (which i got painted, was black originally) 88 s-10 on a 4 inch body lift with 33 bfg Mts, letters out, 4 KC daylighters across the top and dual CB whips coming off the back. She was a bute, but i have come a long way. . . . . .

PS. Destination MT is a great tire that has gained a small cult following

I've got a set of KM2's on my FJC. They have almost 50K miles on them. After about 30K, they get very noisy. I rotate and balance them every 5k so they are still VERY serviceable. Honestly, they are great off road but I drive a lot and I'm very tired of the noise. They're nearly useless in snow/ice, at least this year since much of the smaller cuts on the tread are gone. I don't think I'll go for another mud tire. They didn't balance well since they were new, I have huge amounts of weight on one of them in particular. I'm in the market for tires on the 100 and I'm really leaning towards an AT of some sort.

That being said, I've had these tires to Moab twice, Ouray once, and a bit of local wheeling. They are really great tires. You wouldn't guess I have nearly 50K on them.

I feel like the 100lx might do a bit better on noise than an fj? Either way i can just turn up my radio and from what ive heard here km2 sounds like the direction ill take. Im thinking 200uzj probably sees similar terrain as i do here. Hopefully discount tire will give me something for my ltx's bc gd....

yes, probably better on noise...that's an understateification.
