I installed mine (lipstick style) in the rear lock cylinder hole on the lower tailgate. Since I use the remote almost exclusively to lock and unlock, losing that was no big deal. Use an oring to seal the camera flange against the hole. I did have to open the hole up a size or two with a uni-bit.
No theft attempts to report :D

Can you post a photo?

Hi, I'll have to snap a photo of my cruiser. But I installed a camera similar to the attached which I found on Amazon. Mine had a threaded collar though to tighten the camera in place from behind, rather than the springs. It took a bit of work to route the cable under the plastic trim piece on the rear of bed so the cable package wouldn't bind. I'll snap some pictures of that, too. I pulled 12V+ power, which turns on the monitor and camera from the left rear reverse light.
This is the Amazon part # of that $10 camera: 53026175@@1
Mine wasn't much more several years ago.

I did route a 25' video-grade RCA cable from the camera to the head unit as my '99 wasn't pre-wired for a camera. The snap-together panels in the rear and trim at the doors made this easy.

I've been thinking about this problem for a while. I will eventually have 2 rear tyre carriers so I'll have no view at all through the camera in the OEM position. So mounting it on one of the carriers IS a potential answer. However, the thing I don't like about having the camera offset and ahead of the tow hitch is that I won't be able to see the position of that to allow me to reverse with precision onto a trailer. So I was considering re-using the OE reverse camera and relocating it onto EITHER 1 - an arm that mounts to the tyre carrier but brings the camera to the gap between the two tyres OR 2 - position the camera centrally on a bracket on the rear edge of the roof rack OR 3 - use a miniature camera mounted in the high level stop light OR 4 - buy a WiFi rear facing camera mounted centrally to the inside of the rear windshield and beam the video to my iPhone. All just ideas at the moment - waiting for my roof rack to arrive so I can get an idea of the field of view of each option.

Good write up by the way - explains why I couldn't easily prise the camera out when I looked at it the other day and also shows that 'ordinary' wiring is all that is necessary. In the UK 4 core wire for landlines will probably work and comes as screened and twisted pair

I wanted to submit and update to what parts are included in the Slee camera relocation kit. I spoke with Ben at Slee yesterday, and the kit only comes with the bracket; no cable, no tabs, no other parts. I went ahead and ordered the bracket. I have the BIOR rear bumper/tire carrier however the bolt pattern on the BIOR is the same as the Slee so should work fine. I will research the part # for the tabs and update this thread if/when I can find that out, unless someone else already has??

Does anyone have a parts list for what's needed to do this?

Finally got around to doing the install (after having the Slee relocation bracket for over a year...). As mentioned in my prior post, Slee only provides the bracket, no other parts. To mount the camera to the Slee bracket, I just used 1/4-20 SS screws with nylon lock nuts (I think they're 3/4" in. long) and bought about 10 ft of security camera cable from Amazon, similar to what Paflytyer recommended.

The only thing left for me to do is cover the opening where the stock camera was mounted. I'm planning to run by Home Depot this weekend and see if I can find something that will work.

Maybe you could call Christo and ask him to make you a custom, one of a kind pair, LOL!! Maybe the start of something??

Is this item still sold by Slee? I figure they're closed for the weekend. Got to figure out a camera mount option when my rear bumper comes in.

Anyone have recommendations for what type of wire is used? Do I need to get the style shown in the thread with multiple wires wrapped in the bundle including the bare wire or can that just be a normal wire?

Stan- (@paflytyer)

I wanted to thank you for an excellent write up with pictures. The re-wire was the part that had me a little confused until I read your install. IDK the purpose of the bare wire ( since its jacketed before and after the bare wire) it didn't make sense to use it - but I did and it all works- thank you. Now I have useable reverse cam again!

Since Slee doesn't offer the reverse cam bracket and kit ( as far as I could find on their website) I hacked up my own bracket and wiring kit.
10' Home Depot 18/4 shielded security wire- $6
.063(14/16 gauge) 5052 H32 Aluminum: $12

Not a factory quality metal fab-but for a vise bent bracket it'll get the job done.

Much easier to just drill the plastic tabs. Toyota sells them for less than $1.00 I think.

Does anyone know the part number for the plastic tabs? I want to fiddle with the camera but couldn’t get the tabs to release and don’t want to drill them until I know they can be replaced. I didn’t see them on partsouq diagram.

Edit: found this and ordered the suggested replacement to try them out:

Dang just came across this today as staring at my blocked reverse cam screen was bugging me - I knew Mud would have the answer.

So Slee don’t make these anymore?

I got one from Slee this past spring that included block off plate for the hole on the factory location. Had to call as it was not on their site.
