I may be coming up Saturday morning or VERY late Friday night. Wife and I are playing in couples twilight golf and dinner Friday evening and dinner usually doesn't end until about 9. Even if I'm packed and ready to roll, that doesn't put me into Crab Flats until 11.

We'll see how I feel that night.

I am in the exact same boat. We are going out to dinner with friends for the :princess: 's birthday. I was thinking of leaving late but I don't know if she will go for that. We can caravan at o'dark thirty in the am if you are interested. I will see if Fri night is an option, but don't know. Do you have a CB? I usually just run 800mhz which is the frequency we use for desert racing but I could probably whip up a CB setup if neccessary. Pun intended. :D

We can certainly touch base Friday and if not late, then early and a caravan would be great.

Standard CB is in the truck - NorCal tradition with CB's, use the date as the channel number for the day.

BTW, you'll be happy to know the engine is being detailed today. Must have done an OK job while I finished the flushing after the PHH. Guy said it wasn't all that bad and is only charging me $50. We'll see how it turns out.

I will see what I can do about a CB. Caravan it is. Shouldn't you have done your engine bay after the trip.

I'm still trying to see if I can join you guys... scheduling problem with the beautiful :princess: and the 2 little :princess: ....

but am still hoping. Would be nice to see you all. :)

So do I remember correctly that road trailers can make it to the camp? I might bring the popup possibly....

I hope you can work it out to be there, it'd be great to meet you. Kevin (Boston Mangler) probably won't be able to make it due to some Baja 500 carnage, so you can buy out his half of our campsite (he takes PayPal) and camp next to the cocktail bar (me).

P.S. You're a brave man for calling your wife the BIG :princess: . My wife would be jawing me about that, "So, you think I'm BIG & FAT, huh?"

Mo - I saw in the Albertson's ad that tri-tip is on sale for $2.77/lb.:D

what big :princess: ? Check the above, no such thing... :D

OK, it's not looking so great schedule wise.

Anybody familiar with the San Bernardino area? If I'm travelling East from LA, are there times that are really bad trafficwise on the 210 etc?

If I leave ASAP on Fri pm after the :princess:s are accommodated, I would end up going through the Pasadena area around 3, the San Bernardino area around 4 maybe. That doesn't sound so good. Getting to Big Bear in the dark ain't so great either. At what time do the freeways clear? And making it Sat am may not work since I have a 4 hrs drive.... shoot....

I did it while it was in. Not expecting much but dust in Big Bear and that can be blown out with an air gun. Engine looks good. Had a little problem when I drove away with a very, very rough acceleration. Glad I read the problems others had just recently had with a drop of water in the TPS. A little blow with compressed air at my suggestion back at the shop got it all cleared up quickly. Unusual per the manager as the guys they sublet detail engines all the time and don't hit it with water. They use spray bottles with a soapy mix and lots of rags. $45 because they didn't think it was all that dirty.

Had the shop change the belts also - all of $75 to do all three belts. Kept the old ones for trail spares.

Laguna Viejo Auto - Harry, the manager is a cruiser fanatic and very nice guy. They are on Cabot next to Amato Tire. I'll be doing my business there going forward. His chief mechanic, Mark, is a really knowledgable guy and former Yota master mechanic. They know there stuff and lots less $$ than a dealer.

Thanks Dan, that is a great "tip". :D I will be going to Albertsons. How many pounds do you think I will need?

I don't know the 210 well enough to say for sure but the 91 is brutal east bound at that time. I have always been led to believe that the 210 is way better. My cousin commutes to LA from the high desert and he always takes the 210 vs the 10. This link is caltrans real time traffic information. http://www.dot.ca.gov/travel/index.phpIf you took the 210 all the way to the 30 and skip the 15/215 you would probably do ok. Brent and I are leaving at o'dark thirty on Sat and all of us will not be hitting the trail until 10-11 am to avoid an organized run. Even with a 4hr drive you wouldn't have to leave ridiculously early. Hope that helps, we would love to have you along.

Excellent information, sounds like I too have a new shop to tackle anything I don't have the time or skill for.

interesting, I'm looking at this real time map just now (4pm) and it looks like Eastward on 210 is pretty good actually once you're past Pasadena etc. Not so bad at all... There may be hope still.

Really, honest....it's ok. :flipoff2: Don't you need to study this and post up a poll first? hehehe :flipoff2: Oh, and won't your sliders get scratched? :flipoff2:
Let's see.....what else.......nothing else comes up quickly. Just come and have fun Eric.....:princess: or not.

What would we do without modern technology? I honestly think it will be doable for you as long as you don't mind the drive time. I would check it a few times at about 4pm next week just to be sure. We will keep our fingers crossed for you.

Yeah e.
Just show up...its not like your :princess: is pregnant or something (like mine).

I might show up the last minute before trail time (still stock!). You can show me how those sliders with cat protection works. :D You really didnt use them at the Angeles Forest/Rowher trail!

guys remember the 210 only goes as far as the 15.(until 2007). but if you take a short jog.. on the 15 to devore and then take the 215 south to the 30 it is better than the 10...

I was planning on talking with everyone when we get up there but wanted to throw out some ideas to see what everyone thought. I was thinking we could start with the Holkom Creek trail which is suitable for all but the west end where we would start has a pretty rocky section but there is a small loop that those without rocker protection or the urge can take around and meet back up to continue the trail together. From there I was thinking we could tackle the John Bull trail and select something milder and split some off if there is an interest. Anybody have any specific trails they want to run? I am throwing stuff out.

Isn't John Bull the 'mini' rubicon of Big Bear? Not real interested in running that one.

Do you have the trail numbers. Picked up a trail/topo map of the area yesterday.

I can get the numbers later, right now I am on a real quick lunch break and about to apply the durabak. Just finished all the prep. :D

The John Bull is not that bad but the last time I ran it I had 6" lift, 35's, ARB's, dual t-cases etc...

Six inch lift is a little different than 2" or for some I think are coming stock height. I've heard from others that 4" may be a good minimum for John Bull.
