Mica on the right, Denver on the left.
what a pair of beautiful dogs...
i do not kow how you keep them looking so good, mine has that second coat that just keep sfalling out all summer long...

Hey moose, sorry about the pup, hope all goes well.
This may or may not have been suggested before, but Ill through it out there anyway.
I noticed you are running a 3B. If you don't have AC, you should be able to build a bracket for a large 12V alternator. (I just finished mine a week ago, ill post pics if your interested.)
I grabbed a new 130 amp Brushless Denso for $80Can off ebay, and spent maybe $200 in material for the bracket ($150 of which went to Toyota for their crappy pulley)
You would then have an isolated 12V system, attach a capacitor and there you go. you could power a large system withought too much trouble. Granted the engine would have to be running, however this way you save the hassle of lost space with installing a third battery (this would be my primary concern,) not to mention without a new alt, how would you keep a third battery charged?
This way you also have 12V without having to tinker around with the 24v system and possibly draining your batteries after listing to too much satellite radio....

PS you could also wire in a SMALL 12VGel cell to your deck, attach it with a small relay, so when the engine is off the system would power down, but you would keep your presets in the memory.

Thanks again all...(sigh)...I've just heard from the vet and it's not good. I have a real crisis on my hands. Mica apparantly has diabetis, and has gone into what they call Diabetic Ketoacidosis. She's not likely going to make it through the night, and if she does it's insulin shots, urine analysis and so on for the rest of her life. I have contacted her owner (we're babysitting for 2 years), as he's footing the bill for all of this (I'm hearing $2000 just for the next week of hospital)...I feel like I've been stabbed in the heart...she's been with us for 2 months and she's like my baby girl. This is really hard...

With a converter and battery minder. Solar panels come to mind too for extended trips.

At 6pm tonight I made the decision to have Mica put to sleep. She was a very very sick girl, and her long term prognosis was so far removed from the type of footloose, outdoors dog that she was...I had to make the tough decision.
I held her paw and kissed her on her big dumb head as she died. I pray to God she's chasing rabbits somewhere in heaven.

Thanks all for the kind thoughts, tough day made easier.

I seen this post when Waynes dog Bill passed away. I like this story so I hope Pablo doesn't mind a repost.
Condolenses on your loss.

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the "Rainbow Bridge" because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing; they are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him/her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again, again, and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

My only concern with that is if you are planning on running a decent system then you are going to be looking at a fairly high load... now granted I don't know how many amps you can pull out of a converter, but if the original problem was not being able to find one large enough for running the system in the first place......
If you go for something modest, like a single 12" dual voice coil in a sealed box, then you would probably need an amp in the 800W-1000W range. so RMS that would probably be like 600-800, so you are looking at like 90-130 amps 12V, plus another 20 or so for the deck, so lets say 150 amps, and if Moose added say a 400W 4 Ch to run the small stuff then we could drop the deck to say 5 amps, but add say another 70 for peek, so you would be looking at a peak draw of well over 250 amps... now I think you would DEFINITELY need a nice beefy bat for that, but could a similarly priced converter really put out that much juice?

s*** Moose, Really sorry to hear that, I had to put one of mine down a few months ago.... sucks big time... hope things get better....

Am I the only one here that thinks this kind of system belongs in a low rider? Maybe a Mazda B2200 slammed to the ground with big shiny spinner wheels and FEAR THIS across the windshield and some sort of hideous candy coat paint. :flipoff2:

Most Cruiser owners that I know, including me, would just like to add a "full" sound to their music. This usually entails a subwoofer, but nothing too crazy. My Alpine 5 channel amp is not going to win any sound off competitions, but it delivers a nice rich sound and powers a 10" sub, all at under 35A peak.

We each have our own individual tastes, of course. But there are limits to running huge 12v systems in a 24v vehicle...the limit pertaining to simplicity. Cruisers, especially diesel ones, are wonderful for their simplicity...and that usually results in reliability, meaning less problems. In my personal opinion, you start messing with it too much, and it will just cause problems later.

my sound system:
CD palyer and the stock speakers in the dash...
luckily i have a wife that thinks just like me... 1/2 hr of music from Calgary to Van.
i guess it makes a difference when you can still hear the notes...

i just love it when a new kid gets a stereo and goes BOOM BOOM BOOM down the street and a couple weeks later has his car broken into and the stereo gone...
advertisement: BOOM steal me BOOM steal me...

These are all good suggestions (thanks BigBrownDog). I am hesitant to go so far as to add a second alternator and/or third battery, and I have had no luck in sourcing a 24v amplifier, so I think I will simply upgrade my 24-12 converter to something with more continuous amperage, and then build the system using strictly 12volt parts.

Wayne, I know what you mean re: super sized sub-woofers. Years ago in Vancouver I saw a Honda Civic with a silly spoiler on the trunk and a massive sub-woofer that was making the whole car shake. The spoiler actually started to bounce down off the trunk on one side as we waited in traffic. The driver (guess) got out and re-stuck it in place.
