Bomar......you tend to think I am as mechanically inclined and knowledgable as most of the guys in the club. It is more or less about debating on mud for a month before I discover it was a simple fix and the part will out live me....or my relationship with this particular 40.

Jeez!!! Don't overthink this. Buy the parts and replace. My clutch lines are original and unless they have broken or are leaking leave them alone.

$225 out the door if you want me to fix the poor old 40.

thanks, ill probably fool with this, esp. since I can't get it to you.

I've no doubt she will end up in your shop soon. I want a full diagnostic of what all needs $$$, I mean love.

Any ideas? This was next to the old 3 speed shifter and around the steering column shaft. Looks almost like

an electrical gizmo. Removed when trying to get to the center connector of my clutch line (transfer from hard upper to soft lower line). Just thought it was interesting.

That's a great thought JT. Just a really odd connector you know? It peaked my curiosity as to it being original or not because it had been there 20 plus years easy (read busted knuckle).

well it's been removed and put in the "came off the cruiser, keep for what ever" box. thanks for the clarification.

You ever get the clutch issue worked out Shush?

Its going on tomorrow. New complete system

Kids loved it yesterday. The Top is great for keeping the sun off of them and my wife is really digging the top, color, stance.

and then .......they had a lovely summer riding in their 40 series down to the neighborhood pool, flower shop, grandparents, store, Sunday drives....until...

about 3 weeks ago some symptoms returned where the truck was running great except at idle. I had adjusted float, fuel mixture, etc. but this was masking the problem. I couldn't find a vacuum leak nor could Rob....fuel flow, pump, fire, timing, idle solenoid all good.....so we threw on a Trollhole carb 2 days ago. Problem persisted but dang isn't it purdy?

Enter Rob to investigate..... he found the leak which must have been miniscule and with my adjustments it got worse over time and made the crack larger.

2nd Picture will show a hairline crack where the intake bolts to the manifold. Being aluminum, welding was out but CT was to be the rescue as his Pig donated an intake manifold that happened to be in the shop.

She is in surgery now.

I have ordered some hardward to get the top fully synched down to the tub. (We have been running topless or with the sides up all summer so I have just enjoyed it. This fall I plan to put new gaskets and rubber on the doors and maybe hunt for a used heater and rework my spare windshield wiper motor.

thanks Gary. I love the soft top. It's from Trollhole (Marshall) it's great quality, can't wait to get it synched down and the doors on to "complete the look".

I was just re reading your time machine build, amazing work.

Donor intake is different than one on Johns 40 3 bolt holes for oil filter versus 4 on the replacement. Any insight from y'all 40 guys are welcome. Need to know if it will work or if we need to shop for another intake.
