@NLXTACY - just watched your review of the pioneer unit. well done! for those that did not see the link...

about halfway down the page.

I did not see you look at maps, do you use gps guidance with your unit?

hahaha, I forgot all about that video.

No, my model does not have maps and quite frankly I wouldn't use my radio, in that location, for maps/navigation because my eyes would be off the road too frequently especially with bad eyes. I use my phone for Google Maps and it works perfectly, even better now that Google updated it to include Waze info and with the new features including off line maps. Eventually I'll get an iPad mounted up near eye level.

Ditto - exact same unit (JVC KW-V20BT). I didn't do a separate amp for door speakers but I did for sub. It has a ton of features. I'm happy with it. $199 shipped. I don't use Apple products, so something that ran Apple apps wasn't a big deal for me. This does everything I want. Fit was perfect, ran the BT mic and USB input into the ashtray.

I went on the cheap and got the JVC KW-V20BT. Has bluetooth, reverse camera input (had to buy the camera separate but only paid $18 for the camera), usb input from the rear, phone, change the colors, etc, etc. The only complaint I have is the screen doesn't tilt so in full sunlight I can't see the screen from the driver's seat. Not a huge deal. I think I got the HU and camera for under $250.......get what you pay for. But with a Pioneer amp under the driver's seat and bazooka powered tube in the cargo area it rocks the inside of the LX. ;)

got a kenwood ddx372bt in my wish list on amazon, but i havn't pulled the trigger yet

i feel like a whole bunch of apple carplay/android auto HU's are on the horizon, and i'm not comfortable with paying over $350 or so for an HU...

^ this. It bums me out because I think Apple announced that product like a month after I did my stereo. It would be worth it for me to upgrade again though. I see enough things about the unit I have now that bug me.

don't be bummed, it's taken AGES for the products to reach market, and still hard to find... i think parrot has some nice units, but they're like $700+

it's only a matter of time before the OSes reach the budget units, i think... it's way cheaper and better for these HU companies to get the free development done by google/apple, which makes the interfaces a lot better for everyone

The fact that I can control thru my phone makes me giddy. Still want a steering wheel controller :(
parrot has some things that may help with that...

has anyone made any threads on removing the phone controls for the LXs? i've never even looked into it, but i enjoy mashing buttons with passengers every once in a while to make phone noises, that's about all it's good for...

"that's what the 90s sound like"

My wife wanted the LC interior updated so I took the liberty to go overboard. Context: have a '93 and there was a lot of outside noise entering so I lined it with sound and heat deadener it. I've driven a '95 and '97 and the noise was considerable less without any sound liner:

Pioneer 5600
Front and rear cameras
Blue tooth
JBL amp
4 JBL speakers
8" sub woofer
Clifford remote start (I like to have the AC running and cool before we put the kids in)

We have a couple kids and the DVD player option sounded good at the time but it's too far away from the rear seats, the iPad hanging from the head rest works fine.

Did someone say head unit remotes? Check these out. Found them on eBay for $24-$30. They are Bluetooth disc shaped controllers. They have them specifically for Apple or android systems. The top home button summons Siri and the home screen while the bottom media button controls play/pause, volume and track selection of your music. It has worked for me on my pioneer nex 4000 in Bluetooth mode and CarPlay mode. The one caveat being that you loose the ability to control the volume with the fob

when in CarPlay(these are for hook up with the phone of your choice, not sure if you can do a HU connection). Must be a software override issue. I have mine mounted to the e brake handle but I think they would look great on the horizontal spokes of the steering wheel. Just check Amazon or satechi.com.

Anybody have this unit? Can you use Google Maps Turn by Turn via BT via iphone?

I have a JVC (Kenwood) KW-V30BT. I really like it - it can mirror your phone, still has an analogue volume dial (important to me, I don't like up and down buttons), bluetooth, rear camera as well as additional video input that I connected to a camera on my ARB front bumper. Ticks all the boxes. Very happy with it, now I just wish I had steering wheel controls. I have a 4 channel amp under the seat serving the two front speakers and my ancient Bazooka Tube sub.

Don't have any pictures of my unit/cameras, can get those later, but here's a link to the unit online: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-8fdy7w2ua4p/p_105KWV30B/JVC-KW-V30BT.html

prob cheaper on Amazon but Crutchfield always good with support if you install yourself

Installed a kenwood dvx372bt about a month ago.

Cheap pioneer speakers in the doors.

Rear camera hasn't been installed yet.

Now that I have it, I wish it had a tilt screen. I also wish I had bought the steering wheel controls. I also don't like how it controls ( or lack thereof) the power antenna.

I have two headrest monitors still in the box and the kids are dying for those to get installed.

Edit: the kenwood model number was wrong. It's a 372bt.

I just went to Crutchfield and compared 5 different kenwood HU, and found very little difference between them. What should I be looking for?

For navigation, I would prefer to use the Iphone vs. some Garmin service that I have to subscribe to get updates. Does that limit me to using the Pioneer units?

Do you have access to off line maps on your iPhone? I would only use the phone as a back up.
With Garmin you only need a subscription if you want real traffic alerts. Some Kenwood models have a one time fee for a life time subscription to such service.

Is that a wood grain 4wd knob?
