So...after breaking down this morning and telling my wife what happened she asks, "so how are you going to fix it". I told I would need to tear into the radio and figure out what isn't working. Her response? "Fxxx that, lets go".

Where are we going?

"We are going to that stereo place on Topanga and getting a new radio".

:steer:

Stopped off over at Pacific Stereo: http://pacificstereo.com/ in Woodland Hills.

Three hours and $700 later we have a new toy, installed:

Well, maybe I spoke a little too soon with my excitement. I didn't realize until I started playing with the fader that I finally noticed that not all the speakers were working. Like at all. The front right and left rear only work. All others do not work. Need to find out how to test the wiring for the speaker. Ugh, frustrating.

How's it going with the troubleshooting? You can test continuity on speaker wires with a multimeter (it may be difficult with the distance between ends), or you could rig up a AA battery to one end and then test for voltage at the other end. That's usually easier to do. You may want to bench test each speaker to eliminate them as the problem.

Take it back to the stereo shop for diagnostics.

Turns out its me, not them.

The speakers have a large opening for the speaker wires. But the stock speaker cables are like 20awg. Well, they slipped out. So I soldered the bare wires to fatten them up. Now they hold fine. I only have three speakers swapped out so far but sounds noiiiiiice!!!

Very nice! Great job. I noticed the stock wiring is a little slender too. I ended up putting on wire connectors that slide onto the terminal posts of the speaker, but soldering would have worked just as well. Great work!

Had some time to kill and wanted to play around with Adobe Premier Pro so I strapped my iphone to the steering wheel and did a review of the Pioneer Head Unit I got, see what you think:
