Looking in the future to put P/S on my pig. Largest tire will be 31X10.50. I am keeping it pretty much stock and will be used for a grocery getter and camping. Power steering will be the only upgrade, already have A/C. Now my question is mini truck, saginaw, or scout ? I am looking for the easiest mod. I figure all will suffice, since there will be no heavy steering loads, giant wheels and no big off roading. Show me your clean installations.:bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2::bounce:

Thanks

I have FJ60 power steering with 4x4 Labs arms, tie rods, etc.

looking at the Swine Resource Thread it seems you have to cut fenders, modify, move or replace shock tower etc. Does not look like the kinks have been worked out, too many variables for me. No mention of the mini-truck. would this be a direct mount onto the frame as the stock manual steer? Does anyone have a pic of the mini-truck set up? I've never seen a pig power steering for sale, I would assume they are very rare, and $$$$. Looking for Ideas for when my resto starts I can do it all in proper sequence.

thanks

4 replies... none with pics! I would like them too as I'm about to put FJ60 steering on my 55. I did a ton of research and determined that this was my best bet for beefiness, ease of install, toyotaness and aesthetic. I really didn't want a sag box sitting under my bumper... boooO!!!

Post your pics boys!

Well... my pig is far from a purist perspective. The 60 DD is MUCH closer.

If you go mini... go with an IFS box. 60 box is always a good choice.

miletwo - posted a pic... but will have to disappoint you on the sag box. It now has hydo-assist setup which this pic does not reflect. note: My setup if far from a stock 55 steering setup. :grinpimp:

SWEET! I'm super psyched to jump into my FJ60 install. I have everything (box, cooler, pump) except the shaft. I'm expecting to get it in place then measure the length so that I can order the right length from Bang & Olufsson (sp).

Nice setup. Will definitely call Lance if I run into any snags.

EDIT: HAHAHA Just realized... B&O is an audio/video company I've been looking at.

Correct name is Borgeson. (link below)

There are several threads on this subject floating around in here if you search for them. I have a few pics hiding in one or two of them.

they are posted, in the swine rescource thread, all the pics posted here so far are in that thread, plus my pic.

the poster is asking about the easiest most direct swap, that is the mini set-up. Lance @ ironpig along with a few others sells a bracket that you attach to your frame, once thats on everything is bolt up. the minitruck box mounts at a slightly different angle, but everything else is the same. the pump is a pretty easy affair as well, once you buy the bracket to mount it on the engine its all bolt up. some guys have to move the alternator, just depends where yours is. the bracket, or the ones i have seen, bolt to the driver side head of the engine.

ok, here are a couple pics of my scout install. Definately worth the time to sleeve the bolts and plate the frame as the return line on the scout box is so strong it will twist the frame while steering. I used 3/8'' plate but think 1/4 would do fine, but the sleeves are what will keep you from crushing (hourglass) the frame while tightening the box down. While i was in there, i added an extra crossmenber to attach some triangulating braces too for further reinforcement. oh and im a designer not a welder ;)

Hey thanks for the pics and the info. I think I'll prolly go with the mini-truck, it looks like it retains more of the stock appearance and no modifying of the fenders and shock towers.

Now, anyone have a line on a minitruck PS box ? What is the difference between the 79-85 box and the IFS box of later models ?

thanks

I don't believe the IFS box will work. I did the minitruck conversion, and it is truly as close to "bolt-on" as you can get. There's a few things you still have to figure out, though, like where/how to mount the p/s pump, lining up the pulleys correctly, etc...
