I have put in new shock hoops on my fj55. I am interested in getting new shocks. I have heard Bilsteins are good shocks and I have heard that the 5100 version were good. It was suggested, however, that I get the 5125 version.

Any of you guys want to weigh in on this? At rest on the tires I measure 21" from eye to eye and 6" from the bump stop to the axle housing.

What would you all recommend?:hhmm:

Bilsteins are a great shock, i just put a set of 5100's on my buddies dodge ram, he likes them. Im personally a fan of Fox shocks, i have a adaptation from some chevy products to make it work in the 55 and im pretty happy with them.

Personally dont know much about the 5125's but if its much like most bilstein shocks you'll like them to. I think as long as you stay with the more well known brands you'll like your decision.

Verbosely replied on the thread in the 40/55 section, but will reiterate for posterity.

If you're not opposed to straying from an "off the shelf" product, my recommendation is Radflo.

At the very least, suggest emailing Glenn at Radflo for a cost analysis, keeping in mind that they will have a custom travel, custom valving, and bolt in mount (no adapters required) price.

Customer service is unparalleled.

He has the mounting orientation and shock end specs, plus the OE 55 valving specs afforded by the FSM, but your weight, vehicle usage, and travel specifications will stray from enough that, I'm certain, he'd spend the time on getting it right.
