ATS,
What bilsteins would you run on a LC with a 2.5-3.0" lift?

Does Christo have the same set up you guys run down thier?

Christo has (at least he had them at one time) the longer Bilsteins you need for the 100 with 2.5-3" lift.

we sent him some to try, and he had afew, and we can send him more, he is aware of the product, just needs some enquiry so he can stock them.

The ones we have made are what i would run on 2-3" lift on the 100, for sure.

Fish:

I just put Bilsteins on and have the same thunking noise over speed bumps. I have had three shops recheck it. jditom has a good suggestion to have them reinstall them. Running out of options other than to go back to originals. My truck is also 1/2 in higher front and back...is that normal?

any suggestions would be great

thx

Hey jmuandvt413

I am taking it in Sat for the first time to be re-checked so I'm not sure what the deal is. I wonder if we got a bad batch of shocks from the guy and eBay? But they are Billsteins and that is hard to believe. I'll have them reinstall if they can't get it right, but who knows what the hell the issue is.

I also tested it going over the speed bumps on just the left, just the right and then again with both front. The clunk happens at right about 10 MPH and higher, nothing less than that, and always happens on speedbumps, but not very often on less "sharp" bumps... f'in strange and anoying as HELL!!!!

Yes, it seem to right just slightly higher, although the stance didn't seem to go up in front, seems the same front and rear, about 1/2" higher or so.

Nope, no heavy accessories at all - bone stock.

I'll keep you posted, you do the same please.

9 toys on another post had this advice for me

"sounds like they possibly got the washers placed wrong. I did that on the left front and rear when I replaced mine a few weeks ago. I had to go in and switch them around as they were clunking with each bump. I did mine at night with just a flashlight and overlooked the correct placement. A couple of the washers have a curve to them that must fit up into the slot in the shock tower. Also, the top nut has to be cranked down pretty tight. When I redid mine and really tightend them, all the rattling and clunking disappeared."

I will let you know if I get it worked out. Sure in annoying sound

Have a great weekend

Can you get a picture of the "curved washers" and their proper placement. Bilsteins are in my future and i'll likely be doing the work myself.

I can't get a photo, but the lower rubber bushing (underside of shock tower) is sandwiched between the two washers with the curved lip of the washer on top with the curve up, potruding into the hole in the shock tower and the non-curved washer on the bottom. The washers that go on top of the shock tower don't give you a choice as one has a smaller hole that will only fit over the very top of the shock bolt. Hope this is clear. It is pretty evident when you see it and think it through, however, I screwed it up the 1st time.

Agree!

did you have any luck correcting the noise.? I had the front ones reinstalled and the noise is still there. They said it could be the lower bushing/or was it ball joint that is making the noise, however it was never noticeble until the new shocks.

not sure whats next

hope you faired better

He is talking to you too since deep down you still dissatisfied with your JUNK OME. OME are no good for IFS. The only OME that I really satisfied with is the one on my old Samurai.

I put OME on my 95 LC and was not impressed. Softer shocks then OEM. I put Billies on my 99 and it was great, rode like a sports car :). I like my 2004 LX470 best or all set on one notch right of center. Can't beat the LX suspension.

Thanks ATS, It sounds logical, thats what I have been asking the shops will the stiffness cause other weaknesses to show up..they didn't really answer me other than everything else look good except the folks that installed the shocks thinks that one ball joint which may be soft. If I start replacing bushings/ball joints and stuff which gets expensive and its the shocks.. that will be a bummer.

Can I replace just the ball joint on that lower control arm by itself or do I have to place the whole lower control arm.. I think I am using the right terminology

SW - yep I miss my 98 LX with the extra controls for the suspension

Hope everyone has a great weekend

Sorry for the late update, but the truck was just in today to the installer - NOTHING. They didn't reinstall (probably becasue I got a steal on the initial install) But the guy who did the install walked through it with me and it seemed he has the washers correct, things tight etc - DAMN...

Not even sure what's next, the noise is ONLY at low-med speed 10-20mph) over speed bumps (or sharp bumps). So I don't mind it all that much and I can probably live with it - but I DO want things right.

I agree that this may expose some other weakness (balls, bushings etc) but jesus, tracking THAT down will be a BIG PAIN...

Let me know if you guys find something and I'll do the same..

Fish out...

Fish:

Hope you resolved your shock issue. I ended up swicth back to original shocks and the thunking is gone. The shocks may be a bit softer not much.

I have the 2 front billies if anyone wants to try them on their truck
