Well I bought a '92 for R&D for skids plates, bumpers, modular aluminum rack and misc other things. I haven't told Andrea yet but... I will probably build this one.

206K on the ticker and runs good. Typical oil leaks and need to address some other maintenance items along with body pieces. Ordered some body parts from @mel lowe and got to know the local Yota parts guy today here in Redding.

While it runs good, I baseline every rig when I get one.

Tentative plans:

Modular aluminum roof rack- designed for the 60 series already just need to check fit and make mods.
Custom bumpers
Storage tailgate lid
ComeUp Seal Gen-2 12.5rs
Sliders
Skid plates
35s
Hard top Trail Tailor tent w/batwing awning
Swap rear axle to FF (?? TBD)
Harrop elockers (??TBD)
3" TourFlex tapered wire suspension lift
Trail Tailor adjustable RLCA and RUCAs
Paint or Monstaliner (?? TBD)
Deflare
Rear drawers (KISS by @cruzerDave ?? TBD)
Fuel wheels

@LS1FJ40 called dibs on this 80, but..... not so sure now. Sorry J

Super excited to see this build! Looks clean!

Pretty clean. Needs some body work for sure. DS quarter has a good dent/rash, tailgate got tied to the quarter damage, the guys daughter rear ended someone. So the grill and valance need replaced. Interior is fair for the age. Nothing a carpet or vinyl kit and some seat covers won't cure. :)

I'm liking the look of that rack Jason. Keep us updated..:D

I hope the rack is finalized this week. Some details:

All aluminum and the weight should come in around 50#. I'm having custom mount blocks machined now that will be welded to the side plates. The stainless gutter clamps are in process as well. Custom E-track straps are being made and also ordered several sets of aluminum S-track pucks to mount pretty much anywhere there is a slot on a crossbar.

I'm making the rack for the 60 guys but with a few mods it will work for the 80 too.

RTT??? Details?

Morgan,

The hard top is a test tent. It was given to me to look at everything and see if I'd like to make a batch of them. I won't release any details on it until after I've gotten to use it and exercise the open/close mechanisms etc for a few months. Seems to be well made and I like the details.

The standard soft RTT specs are here:

I’m looking forward to this! I figure you making a couple hundred bucks over your initial investment should be fair. I mean, the rest is an investment in R&D, right?!?!

Why don’t you do a TT vinyl wrap on it!?!?!

I usually don't make much once I sell one of my rigs honestly. By the time you add in labor.. They are usually a loss most of the time. Just depends on how you value your time.

I've thought about the wraps before but never pursued them. May have to get @Trapper50cal involved in that to see what it would cost..

Looks like a great rig J. Can't wait to see what all you come up with for the 80s.

Labor cost/profit are kinda moot if you do it as a hobby? Just think of it as an entertainment expense!

I could set up as a 501(c)3 and then his losses will be deductible!

Welcome to California Jason. I feel badly that you had to come here.

By s***tier, I assume you mean inconsiderate pricks. True story; last September we took a three week road trip. Day two saw me at Toyota in Idaho Falls to address a leaking oil filter. Once that was resolved, I was attempting to merge on to the highway and here comes this mini truck in the slow lane unwilling to move over to let me on so I had to take the shoulder. While this was taking place over several seconds I thought to myself, hmmm this surprises me, people here seem very friendly but this guy is driving like an inconsiderate Californian. Then my suspicions were confirmed as he drove past an had a California plate.

During three weeks and over 4,000 miles , the only unfriendly service related people I ran into were here in California on our very first night back in this state down south. If I were blindfolded, I could have told you that we were back in CA.

I'm not sure if all Californians are like this.. but they are the nicest people in person here and then turn into complete dicks behind the wheel. Also, everyone must IMMEDIATELY get in the left lane as fast as they can.... EVEN if they are going to turn right in less than a block. I just don't get that at all. Andrea and I have the right lane all to ourselves here. Please enlighten me to this behavior.

From the years I did time in CA my best guess was the whole image/ego thing, as I saw it in NY as well: "Oooh look at me, here I am, notice me, even if I have to cause an accident you will pay attention to me"

On the upside you now have easy access to In-N-Out burgers! <jealous> Be sure to read up online and try all the 'secret menu' items ;)
