Got a terrible rattle that I have been living with for the last 5 plus years- maybe more.:frown: It comes from the 4wheel shifter. I have been using a bungy cord to hold it in place:mad: and now it just dosen't do it any more. I hate rattles. I was told that it was a big problem to fix. Is that true? Or have I been living with simple weekend fix problem? Any help out there?

I'm not much help, I use a bungee too!

Not a hard job, took me about 5 mins to fix mine.
The picture shows the linkage from the top, with the gearbox floor cover removed, and is heaps easy to get to. Simply tighten the nut. Can be done from under the car with little effort. Get the grease gun out and give the grease point a squirt while your at it.
My rattle stopped straight away. (cant see grease point in the photo, but you should easily see it from underneath)

is the tcase popping into neutral? if so, you can also adjust the preload on the detent. it's on the top of the tcase. if you pull the cover off, you can see the fork. there's a plug in the fork with a slot, and a cotter pin. remove the cotter pin, screw the plug in a little and reinstall the cotter pin.

if it is popping into neutral, your fork and possibly shift collar are most likely worn. if you pull it off and look at it and it looks like it's machined, it's worn. if it's still cast with just little shoes, it's good. specs are in the manual.

Yup, they do that...you need a better stereo. Turn it up to 11.

Look. Right across the board. 11... 11... 11...
Marty DiBergi
And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel
Exactly.
Marty DiBergi
Does that mean it's louder?
Nigel Tufnel
Well, it's one louder, isn't it?
It's not ten. See, most blokes are gonna be playing at ten.
You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up.
You're on ten-where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi
I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel
Nowhere. Exactly!
If we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi
Put it up to 11.
Nigel Tufnel
Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi
Why don't you make ten louder, make ten the top number, and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel
These go to 11.
