87' runner... does any one know any cheap way for getting the front bucket seats to sit further back from the dash??? all i need is just a few extra inches...

Howdy! IIRC, ir this is anything like my 85 Xcab, the seats have nothing to bolt to if you move them back on the brackets. The floor is too lumpy to just move the brackets back and re-drill them into the floor. IF headroom is not a big issue, here is what I did: using 3/4' square tube, I bolted a section lefty righty between the front holes in the floor, same for the rear. Then I set two long sections on top of those, going front to rear, and spaced them wide enough for the seat brackets to sit on. I positioned the seats on top of these in the new ( moved to rear several inches) position, and then drill holes for those. I tack welded mine together, but the bolts would be enough. I found plastic end caps at Home Depot for a couple of bucks, that fit perfect. I spray painted it all black and it looks like it should be OEM. Cost me about $20 and only tool was a hand drill. Welder is optional. John
I have never verified this, but I think the rails have two tabs that prevent the seat from sliding back a few more notches. Just put your seat all the way back and then see what's stopping them and if it were filed down, would you have two or three more adjustments. Make sure that there is another bump or stopper so it doesn't slide all the way off! Roger Brown might have this on his site.

sorry hardon, my floor is lumpy... and inkpot, if you could take a picture or two to show me what your talking about would be great, but if not thats fine, im sure i could try and figure out what you explained to do...

and headroom might be an issue... im 5' 11" so i dont know if that matters... and im gonna sound dumber than a box of rocks asking but, who is roger brown?
Ya, moving it back will be tough. The rear feet would be easy, they're just flat, but the front ones will be a challenge. They bolt to a big rib formed into the floor pan. Not impossible, just some fabrication involved.
I had sort of the opposite problem, I'm only ~5'-7" so I wanted the seat a little taller, plus I wanted more room under the seat to hide my 4-channel amp. I lengthened the tabs on the front of the seat and added spacers under the rear mounts to lift the seat up by about an inch.

I recently came across a truck where the front brackets on the seat had been drilled out and then a piece of 1/4X3/4 stock was welded to the bottom of the seat rail sticking out to the front and the bracket was welded back on at the front of the metal, thus moving the seat back 2-3 inches. I need to do something about this soon as well....

Once you do that the rear mounts may need to me modified if they aren't sitting flat on the floor.... Just take a look behind the seat (specifically the side next to the trans tunnel) and see if anything is going to be in the way.
