77 FJ40 4-speed….

Reassembling after rear main seal, pilot bearing, clutch replacement, a good scrubbing of transmission and t-case……

Watched s guy a youtube put a sealant on the rear prop-shaft spline before installing the hand-brake drum. I didn’t find this step in the manual. Any thoughts? Is to keep oil in, or water out? Needed?

Thanks
Bob

I believe it's Toyota FIPG 00295-01281 Seal Packing 103 (form in place gasket). I used this along with a speedy sleave and a Valley Hybrids modified speedo housing with a double seal. There are (2) types of Toyotas FIPG. Please see if other members confirm.

There are a few videos on this site that show the modified speedo housing being installed.

I used this in this type of application.

This is the recommendation of a major driveline manufacturer in similar situations. I prefer something non-hardening when dealing with spline engagement when the internal oil levels are above the output. There is always some sort of movement between the splines.
