This is to the SC'd club members...

I'm in Nevada, where the temps are punching to over 100 during the day, and I'm dealing with constant hill climbing around town. I have a rebuilt SC installed correctly and running a max of about 4 PSI.

Problem is the AC cuts out when the engine gets its workout around town, and it cuts out pretty frequently.

I replaced my AC compressor after it crapped out during this year's Cruise Moab, but the replacement worked for the first ten minutes, then "crapped out" too... only to come on again once the engine cooled.

Took it to Toyota and paid them 150 bucks for a diagnostic look-see. They told me it was working fine. I disagreed and argued with them to help me find the problem. They said I was missing my fan shroud and that was the issue (I was... it disintegrated during the SC install, and I did not replace it).

Question is, are other SC guys having this issue? If so, what do you do?

Thanks!!

And if you don't have a shroud, not guna work in the desert.

If the rest of the cooling system is in good condition, start with a solid clutch tune, replace the ring fan with one from a FJ80/3FE and install it with a good shroud. Then see what you have. Get something that will show coolant temp, the S/C rigs have little cooling margin in desert conditions, I prefer the Ultra_Gauge.

X2 plus get scan gauge or a good aftermaket water temp to keep an eye in your temps . . likely you are well over 220F

Guys,
I'm a nooob... What the heck does a "souped up" clutch do? How is it different?

Change/increase the clutch fluid viscosity to improve the torque transfer to the fan. On a S/C rig and desert, it needs a big step, but varies depending on clutch type. Post a pic of your clutch.

landtank, i'm interested in making the purchase... should we steer off onto PM?

Rick, who's Josh? How do I contact him?

He is the owner of overland exchange linked above.

Become legendary? Or confirmed in an idiot? :hillbilly:
Legendary. Definitely legendary.

Heck, look at all the great stuff that thread has initiated. I'm at my Wits' End© trying to think of the list of great things!
