I knew that eventually I would take all the interior panels off the cruiser to add roof rack wiring, CB radio wire, 2nd camera wiring, sound deadening and I also needed the panels off to install the emu wings. So one weekend I started the process this was not a whole lot of fun.

While all this was off I
  • Replaced weather stripping around the vents (it was dissentigrating)
  • Discovered how to fix rear vents as they are very prone to breaking
  • Put sound deadening everywhere
  • Put more wires than I needed including a switch panel.

For roof rack wiring I used one of the 4 rack mounts on each side, using the unused mounting holes as ports.

Rack wiring is broken up by three individually operated switches so that is why there is some messy wiring here.. but its all covered up by the trim nicely as you can see on the second pic

At the same time I was doing the wiring for the lights and the deadening I was also installing the EMU Wings. I was taking breaks from being on my knees inside the truck and in between drying times, so everything took longer but I tackled several things at once.

Finally the nifty trick to fixing your rear vents once and for all. Slip a metal washer and glue in place of the broken tab and better than new.

All buttoned up after rack wiring, sound deadner and emuwing install. At this point I have all future wiring in CB and light switches as well as an additional camera A/V.

Some feedback about the emuwings. First... they are not cheap shipped from australia after customs fee about $1,350 for a glass pair BUT... I really, really like them. They are noticed by on-lookers I've been told "I didn't know these came on the landcruiser" My primary purpose to purchase these was the ability to reach in the truck from the side for kids stuff or even the kid out of the third row.

Also things can quickly get pulled out of the back if you have dual siwngouts on the rear that you don't want to deal with. The overall quality of the wings is good not super high but good. The hinges are Stainless but some of the screws seem subpar you can go to ACE and get better ones. The wings open and close nicely the glass is not perfect there is some dots at the bottom for the hot glass injection that are noticeable. If you get the clear glass and its not tinted the truck pillar between the passenger door and window is exposed and shows the frame I didn't like this so I painted it black and later painted the outer margin of the window to hide that. I'll post a pic later.

The wings have two locks on each window and after some graphite they lock and unlock nicely but they were hard at first. There is plastic to be trimmed for these to be installed at the top bottom and side of the inside panels. The hinges require you to play with adjustments this takes sometime. Over all I'm very happy with the wings.

More on the rack wiring....

I looked at switch placements and switches, could not find anything I liked and after purchasing several I found that the Blue Sea System 8 switch panel fits almost perfectly on the overhead console for the garage opener. As always Blue Sea makes these things tough and made to carry current they even sell a fused switch version but since I would already have these fused by my bussmann box I opted out of that option. One of the challenges I ran into was having enough room wires and switches (depth). I had to bend the tabs on the panel and get creative on the wiring but it worked out very nicely, bending the tabs flat did not hurt the panel these things are built tough.

Finished panel. In addition I added LED lights into the labels so they light up with "on" this is not something that comes out of the box from Blue Sea. Panel and Rack lights in action.

The lights have 3 switches for rear, driver, passenger side. Here we are at the beach with all on. Gives you a good idea of the illumination power of these:

Between all of these steps I have:
  • Replaced inner and outter CV axle boots with Pfran bands and OEM Toyota boots and grease
  • Replaced UCA boots
  • Replaced LCA boots
  • Regreased front bearings
  • Changed rear axle fluid

Great work here.
I am also interested in the rear locker and front ARB.

You said getting the rear locker axle was easy, no cutting or grinding. How did you wire the locker? And are there any wire splicing into the factory wiring harness? The parts and their numbers you bought from Slee please.

Also, what is the part number for the front ARB?
Thanks

Wring on the locker on its way to the thread. As for the ARB its the design for the 2003 and up 100 series...Deluxe model. You do have to cut tabs off the frame rails on the bottom section about half inch off. The frame square rail is not affected, your cutting a tab that overhangs from the frame rails.

I installed ARB breather kit, now I know most folks don't want to spend the money and rather use a fuel breather filter and "by the foot" rubber hose but I have to say I really like the quality of the ARB diff breather kit. All machined aluminum the hose in the pack is long enough for rear diff and front diff. A single breather has 4 receiving connections so you could hook up to 4 things in to a single breather, and finally the actual filter is not made of paper but rather porous metal, so it should not deteriorate like paper filters. If you install this make sure there is enough slack on the axles for flexing :)

Just noticed you can also see my brass "Ts" this pic was my very first mod when I bought the cruiser.
