Still planning on going. Unless the OC gets over 100º :flipoff2:

This would be helpful for those of us who are getting our passports stamped at the border :flipoff2:

Too Funny!! Quick, turn on the heaters and build a fence!!!

I know Skyline Drive is findable on any map and probably GPS. I've followed it up to Main Divide on Google Maps. What I don't know from that is whether there's a gate open/closed at that point where ashpalt turns to dirt.

Jonathan (The80sRock) is traveling or on vacation - got an out off office from him earlier this week. We've still got a little time to post up a definite meeting place and time.

skyline entrance is about 10 min out of the way on my way home. ill scout it out this afternoon. its been a while since I've gone in that way. the construction project that was at the entrance has been done for some time now so im not sure how accessible it is.

Just talked to a friend of mine that goes hiking up skyline a lot. He says the Skyline entrance gate is almost always locked.

going in at Silverado fire station is probably the best bet. meet either at the parking lot by the fire station or at Silverado Canyon Market a couple miles before.

I like the drive up Silverado canyon any way because its a nice scenic semi rural community.

ill still scout out the Skyline gate tonight

Heard back from Dave Druck as well. He said pretty much the same thing - Skyline is seldom open. Said Silverado might be hit/miss this time of year with fire season upon us. Black Star is hike/bike only.

Silverado would be quite a hike off I-5 for me to scout out prior to this, but maybe. Edit - 17 miles from the freeway and up Silverado a little ways one way. With traffic on El Toro, that'd be about an hour round trip. Ugh!

Hmmm...
If the Cruiser is back from gear swap this would be a good shake down run. I can hang with the other newbie Tare. :flipoff2:

went by skyline last night

Too bad I'll be on vacation 4000 miles away.

There are 3 ways to get to the peak. I ran Silverado up to peak then down Indian Truck Trail out to 15 Fwy by Corona. I also ran out to 74 Ortega Hwy. If you continue on S. Main Divide Hwy pass Ortega and on for 5 miles, you'll run into Wildomar OHV where the bike or truck can get some serious trail to test your lockers or ATRAC. Some trail there must have lockers to pass. Couple Disco and Jeep couldn't pass without lockers.

Yep - I've run it twice. Once from Silverado and once from Skyline. Both times we exited Ortega as a quicker way back to coastal OC. I know Wildomar is there, but I've never explored the OHV park over there.

You can take some of the mild trails without lockers like these Discos. Some ot the trails there has extreme opposite off camber front and rear while climbing 35 degree grade on slippery dirt so thats the reason you need lockers to push or pull the rig up.

Technically no. I don't have my papers in order to cross the 5/405 split :flipoff2:

Still trying to get the overheating issue taken care of. I'll get it solved.

Brahhh, just come down to my place and ride in my truck, I need a coach :flipoff2:

Pretty sure a snowball has a better chance of survival in hell than my Cruiser getting done in time for the run but if y'all don't mind I can tag along in my Runner.

Hell - we haven't yet figured out where we can get to Main Divide much less a meeting place in the morning, etc. Seems like Corona side entrances are locked gates. I didn't call the visitor center (open weekends only) to see if the Silverado Canyon gate is open. Trabuco NFS station or a drive up there are the only options now.
