I'm with you on the concrete pad. I've rolled around for too many hours on my gravel driveway (garage is a woodshop).
Good luck with the house.
You've got me wanting a soft top now (you and @KennyBob).
Yeah I am so tired of working in dirt. but the love of wrenching out weighs the not funess of laying in dirt and sand. The soft top is worth it. I contemplated it way too long. the only down side is i dont fold the windshield down as much. Thanks!!

So a few small updates: I wanted to share how bad this pcv valve grommet was. Its actually Idling much more consistant now. I was having a hard time with idle adjustment and for the life of me could not get it to be consistant. one day it would Idle perfect and the next day it would struggle. I sprayed flammable break clean everywhere to find a vaccume leak or somthing too and nothing stood out. From the looks of this grommet I dont think it was doing much.

Stuck the 2f sticker back on... the old one I pealed off to put the valve adjustment specs sticker on. Additionally I have a new grommet for the valve cover coming. The age old story of I should have bought oem. these valve cover bolt grommets came in a kit and started to dissentagrate as soon as I did the first valve adjustment. I have new ones coming.

Aditionally a friend sent me a really cool picture of the house my wife and I are buying. this picture was taken sometime between 1946 and 50. there was a military base on the island in the early 40s that helped train marines for island hopping and a submarine look out base for the Navy. I would not be suprised if the jeep was not from the base here and sold to a family on the island after the war ended. the house in the top right corner is the house we are in the process of buying. it was probibly around 50 years old at this point. The island looks so different now, where this jeep is I think a road exist and there is alot more trees and vegitation now.

Now here are some glam shots I got of the old 40:

Wrapped up our annual Outer Banks family vacation a few weeks ago. First week is spent on Ocracoke, it’s become one our favorites for many reasons. One of the highlights of the trip is spending time with Robert and The Salt Wagon. Had a few chances to hang out on the beach and in town. Great to see you and your wife. Also great to see the 40 and the progress you have made.

As far the house goes…….make smart decisions and do what is best for you. I’m sure you have the talent to fix/repair/renovate. What you don’t already know you’ll learn and figure it out. As you mentioned, it’s very similar to the old cars. Do your homework, be creative, patient and persevere. As for me, I’m a renovation guy. I’ve renovated every home I’ve owned (4) and currently live in what was previously a Grist Mill built in 1850. Much like the cars it’s very rewarding to see the finished product and know you had brought it back to life. Don’t be overwhelmed, see the big picture, prioritize and knock off one task at a time.

Good luck, you know the island, and the market and I’m confident you’ll make the right decision. Hope to see you again next year or sooner…..Bill
Thanks @smooth Its always great to see you! Thanks for the encouragement on the house stuff. I am looking forward to the project on the house. it will be lots of work but like you said it will be rewarding seeing it along the way. Ill make lists like I always do! I look forward to seeing you all next summer. Gotta talk land cruiser. I am currently looking for another cheep car project too so I might have another rig to tinker with.

A few updates - I got the motor mounts in the mail from cruiser teq. Unfortunutly looks like its going to be raining a bunch over the week and off and on into the next week so IDK if I will be installing them until the middle of next week. I am also mentally prepairing myself to weld in patches in the Rockers here soon on a nice week where we dont have rain. I went with the older round style front mounts.

Other than the motor mounts I did pick up a speedo cable (I bought a longer one for the sbc conversion before I swapped back to the 2f).

I am thinking about picking up some sort of pickup 2wd truck project. like a f100 or c10 like somthing from 1963 - 1966. a c10 might be the way to go since I have a SBC that I can rebuild and throw in it. But I also love the look of the old ford f100s more and I like the old ford inline 6 engines alot. or 2wd toyota hilux/toyota truck (if the price is right). Let me kow what you all think. Budget is very small haha. 2500 - 3500. I have seen a couple of nice patina rigs around NC that would be fun to scoop up.

I’m partial to the 60-66 gm trucks. I have a 62 waiting for my son for his first. It’s a factory long bed but I have a 64 short bed frame for it.

I saw one without an engine (that I have) that looks pretty rust free but lots of patina that was a 65.

I wish I had the cash for this one! looks pretty mint and my wifes family lives in the town its in. Log into Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2665860990245260/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A6bb41412-284d-4f56-ad49-8e265402703f

Funny. I am very much into the early C10s and F100s as well. Had both a 70 for a while that I DD’d and then a 66 C10 project for a very short time right before the 40. I am constantly wanting to pick another one up. Unfortunately my money tree is pretty light these days.

Hey! For a newlywed, you're spending way too much time browsing Facebook for trucks. ;)

So I got the ripped motor mount in and it immidiatly ripped again... I think I figured out the issue though. (hopefully) if you are standing in front of the truck the left rear motor mount arm (4low linkage side) that came with the engine is from a fj55 actually the whole engine is from a 1978 fj55. I think its just slighty different than the fj40 mount. I ordered a used correct one on ebay and I am crossing my fingers that it will correct the mount issue. Luckly the little puck mounts are not crazy expensive.

Broken mount.

Above is a bad picture of the fj55 mount. pardon the sand I need to wash everything off.

other notes: I want to put an older style glass bowl type fuel filter in. (might go with the one with the metal bowl because they are cheep) I found the bracket that hangs off the battery trey. but I am wondering what everyone is doing for the fittings to the filter? I dont really want to buy the redline ranch clear tubes because $$$.

Some other news - I got the old SBC out of the yard and out from under a tarp. Its now sitting in the CTE shop room at the school. I had to hoist it into the back of a truck. had to get the little turd way up in the air. I am thinking I am going to able to use the sbc as an instuctional peice and build it. then hopfully throw it into some sort of truck project down the line. any suggestions with direction on the build would be great. I know if it has not been rebuilt that I will get it bored over. then Ideally I could find an early 1960s C10 that needs a motor that I could get for cheep and drop this motor in. anyways thats the dream.

Other news house stuff is going well. We got some money to do the septic and foundation stuff. now we are just trying to find a good price on insurance.

I know where a 1985 low mileage Toyota 2wd is sitting right now... @Thechief86

Ideally I am leaning towards a full size truck to also use possibly to delever kayaks for our kayak stand but I also would love to own an early 80s 2wd truck. those 20r and 22r engines are so easy to work on. side note even though its not as cool if I were to stay in the toyota family a 4wd reg cab t100 would be the ticket.

yeah I have a problem. Luckly I have a very supportive wife. I will have to start saving up though because my money tree will not be producing much fruit here pretty soon. I gotta start selling art again to get some money flow.

I hear you. Our daughter is also a teacher. (Perhaps the most under appreciated and under paid profession). I believe that she is still under the impression that the money tree is growing in our backyard. 😀

hahah yeah. I am hoping one day teachers will get payed more. honestly I dont think a teacher could make enough money to live without having a job during the summer here. My wife and I are actually thinking about opening a little shop in this new house to help pay mortgage. The house is in an area with a few other small shops and the house is more than big enough for it. Thinking about maybe a vintage and left over clothing from the surfshop my parents own and some art. Its just an idea but It might be cool. Calling it Second Hand Surf.

Our son is doing something similar with “vintage” clothing and whatnot. His is called “Clementine’s Garage” since he has a 1972 VW bus that he named Clementine. He has an online presence but they go to local art festivals and whatnot.

I believe that @ToyotaMatt has the fittings for conversion to the glass bowl fuel filter.
I think I found some fittings on amazon in 1/8 bsp that should work. to run a ruber line to the glass bowl filter. will report back when I get all the parts in. if not I think I have some left over fuel line that was return carb line that I did not use that I might be able to flair and make work.

Haha thanks man. Just an idea but if we can make a few dollars to put towards the house that would be ideal. If I get out to Raleigh this year I need to hit you up. would love to chat land cruiser.

Good luck in the t100 market. I think they are great, especially the 1997 extra cab stick shift!

However I’ve found you have to be pretty lucky. Most all of the beds are rotted out at a minimum and usually the whole truck has 300k on it, beat to snot and unmaintained. They still want $6k minimum here for junk.

We have a 2006 double cab tundra and it’s been fantastic. You seem to be able to find those fairly cheap for single cabs. The 2uz is awesome.
