I was ordering a snorkel from slee today and they mentioned that ARB finally released a new snorkel for the 5.7L engine (3UR-FE).
Part info
ARB SS88HPE - SAFARI Snorkel - '08-'15 Land Cruiser Snorkel - 5.7L

Looks like they have a typo
2017-15 3UR-FE 5.7L V8 PETROL ENGINE (PRE FACE LIFT) SS88HPE
should be 2007-15 I believe...

Once I get the parts in and install, I'll post some photos.

yes ...the year is wrong on the description.

Toby Suter at Safari Snorkel let me know back in January about the new releases for the 5.7 .. so I let Christo know and asked him if he could get me one.

I’ve got the diesel version on my 5.7L truck. The shop had to make it squeeze onto the air box inlet but other than that it fits, functions and looks great. No biggie.

The kids love it, there is a small gap on the A-post. I will try to get a better picture today of the gap.

And yes that is my beautiful 100 series in the background, she is still my daily beater!

If anyone is hunting the 16+, we have them in stock @ Cruiser Outfitters. The tube now fits the 16+ air box without mods.

Your website shows the previous model number SS87HF; do you have what's supposed to be the newer one, SS89HPE? How do I get the new model on your site?

We haven't updated the site yet. Simply give us a call at the shop during the workweek and we can ship it right out.

I just installed the TJM snorkel, and it required modification to work with the airbox. It was a lot of work to get perfect, but when I ordered it there were no total bolt on direct options. I still prefer the look of the TJM, but I would have bought the ARB if I knew it would be good to go as is.

FWIW they announced the 16+ Safari ~6 months ago but they just landed stateside in the last few weeks. The 08-18 application has always been pretty much bolt-on.

Just got the installation done today.

Also decided to extend the front and rear diff breathers

You also get the option of sealing the air box drain hole. I decided not to. My Land Cruiser sees a lot of snow and rain during winter. Just want to make sure if snow or water gets in there, there's a way to drain it out.

How about installing a small check valve in a drain hose running from that drain hole - like this one: Water check valve on Amazon

Looks like it would drain effectively and not permit water to enter.

Could be a good idea even without a snorkel.

Thoughts?

I’ve got Slee installing one on my 2016 next week. @indycole’s situation at CM convinced me to move this up the priority list.

I have avoided a snorkel forever because I felt that unless I could truly justify one...it felt like a bro-truck item—and despite having a very beefy truck, I have tried hard to be reasonable...with the exception of 35’s—which I just reduced to 34’s.

Further on avoiding a snorkel...I didn’t plan deep water crossings, and was not convinced my air filter—though often dirty—was dirty enough to call for the cleaner, cooler-intake argument.

So...
Here’s what convinced me.
It wasn’t just Cole’s unfortunate engine demise. It had much more to do with how he arrived in that bummer of a situation.

None of us were looking for or opting for a “deep water crossing.” —And yet twice in three days, we both found ourselves suddenly much deeper than we expected. On Dome Plateau (a fairly tame and fun trail), as we drove through a large “puddle” of super muddy water...we all discovered two very dug-out spots where any of us could have become stuck...as a pretty odd surprise. Two in the group dipped into holes hidden beneath the water’s surface and required winching. One of them was above the door seals in muddy water.

**We would not have known in advance if a 40” monster had dug those holes even deeper...but if they had...we’d have easily been in real trouble.

So that scenario in combination with the hidden hole Cole dropped into was a sobering realization that—deep water crossings are NOT always something you simply choose whether to do or not do. They can unexpectedly drop you in, just as the depth of both these holes surprised all on the trail.

So...this has changed my attitude about protection...because it proves that it’s not necessarily enough to simply “choose” to avoid deep water. Sometimes it just happens, and while I still don’t plan to seek out deep water crossingsfor other reasons (electronics damage and several other considerations)...I now have two vivid examples within three days of how the threat of sudden depth and engine death is not always due to unwise or intentional choices. Things clearly happen, and the potential cost is high enough that I’m ready to buy “snorkel insurance.”

Do I think what happened to Cole is likely to happen to me? Nope. I think it is not likely at all. But with the possibility of a $20k repair bill...a 5.7-specific snorkel is on its way to me from ARB as I type this.

So ya.
Mind...changed.
