I thought this deserved its own thread.

I left here Friday after work at around 3pm, picked up a truck bed full of various FJ40 parts in Bloomington, IL, and headed toward the east coast.

2 days and 1700 miles later, I unloaded this from a Uhaul trailer.

It's sitting and waiting....along with lots of parts, for me to yank the 3L-T out of it next weekend. It's at my dad's shop and I don't have time to get over there during the week. If it was here, I wouldn't be able to sleep until it was done.

Rare and highly sought after Diesel to W56 bellhousing.

I plan on doing a bit to it while it's out, so it probably won't get transplanted into the runner for a couple of weeks.

Other pictures you guys might like.

Nice :hhmm: you have my attention, I'll be watching your built

The guy seems to be big on importing trucks. I think his BJ and the 70 were bought from New Zealand. Pretty cool to see.

The 40 on the trailer belong to the guy I brought all of the parts for. He picked it up on ebay for $500. It was close enough and the right price and supposed to have a good drive train. He is a new member to mud and has a 40 with a 4bt powerplant.

From what I gathered, the rusty one is just a "it's close and cheap" purchases. He's just using it for whatever might be good.

His 4bt rig was at his house.

The guy that had the stock diesels is a different guy. All three of us met up at one place for a mini swap meet, lol.

I thought the mini trucks had 2L diesel ?

I know they had them in the Hiace and some of the later 1989-1995 Hilux bodies. I think the 3L was also in the prado. I before '89, they had 2L, 2L-T, 2L-TII, 2L-TE, etc. Before that they even had 1L's.

The truck I picked up had a 2L-T in it previously which cracked a head. The PO dropped in a 3L N/A and put a turbo and intercooler on it. So, the truck is an '82, the engine is an '89. I'm pretty sure that he said the engine came from a Hiace.

Well let's see...

Today, I drove an hot and a half to my dad's shop and got started. It was around 12:30 when I picked up the first tool. At 3:30. there was a turbocharged 3L and an KQ92 transmission during on the flour (took so long because I was trying to get a good grasp on the diesel setup).

Shortly thereafter I split the engine and tranny and went to work changing the clutch, timing set, and some other piddly things I won't bore you with.

Once finished, I played musical tricks and got the runner in the shop. I'm down to the point where I have one stubborn bolt in the t-case mount, both motor mounts, and pull the sticks, then the old faithful 22re with be ready to make its final departure. Breakups are tough. I was constantly fighting tear and starting to get cold feet....to late more. That 22re sure is harder to pull with the labyrinth of writes everywhere. The diesel was very easy.

I'll be back at it tomorrow. I should at least have the TD siting in the runner by tomorrow evening.

I lost a tiny bit from the bypass oil filter that I had to remove. A little came from that piece broken off in the block in the picture of the 3L stamp (now plugged off). The vast majority of it came from the output of the tranny as out was tilted to come out.

Anyone need some L50 transmissions, a 22re, or LCE header?

Man if you were closer I give you a hand Ryan. Keep up the good work.

No worries, got a little help from my dad tonight and the company was definitely welcome. I was starting to go insane on my own.

Finished getting the 22re out tonight and hour the engine bay cleaned up a little. Also broke the fuel inlet so that it can accept pump diesel, removed the EFI fuel pump from the tank, flushed out the gas, and filled her up with diesel.

New Bellhousing was installed on the W56 and mated to the 3L. New fuel lines were spliced into the existing and are ready to go. Actually dropped everything in and started to get going...but found that there was an issue with the clutch fork/throw out bearing. Decided that it would be eery to pull it back out instead of splitting it in place. Now its all fixed but its back out on the floor with a few hours of work left before she can be in and running. Advice: L50 and W56 forks are not interchangeable.

I was really hoping to keep this project limited to a weekend and drive it home tonight, but oh well, things happen!
