Hey everyone,

I have noticed some rust underneath on suspension/driveline components (see photos). Looks like surface rust to me, but I wanted input from other 200 owners.

What’s the best way to clean this up and stop it from spreading? Wire brush + rust converter? Paint? Fluid Film after?

Anyone done this on their 200 series—what products/process worked best?

I live in Southeast so salt/brine on roads is not really an issue. Just curious if I could clean it up a bit.

Thanks!

Wire wheel will take care of surface rust. Folks have also have had decent luck with dry ice blasting.

Once the rust is off, paint with something like Rustoleum enamel. Would avoid rust converter personally.

When everything is cleaned and painted you can apply fluid film or another lanolin product. Will last a while down here.

Majority of people won’t fluid film in the SE but it will certainly prevent surface rust like seen in your photos.

Don’t waste a second on that. Where we are it won’t get worse. I’d focus on the KDSS valves instead

I find this material to be superior to Fluid Film. There's a place in my town that sprays it, I get it done annually. Well worth it.

Real Landcruiser owners by FF by the gallon! @wngrog would approve

Seriously though, I'd maybe remove/paint the rust, then go to town with this for eternity. It's awesome stuff, and I tend to actually like the smell, unlike most :p

Dry ice blast and clear ceramic coat or old fashioned undercoat.
