Glad you are ok, these rigs do rock and the tough part is the truth on the insurance, but I drive it for the driving not the wining .... so sounds like you too are on the yoda -80's for the same reason which is, building dreaming testing trying driving exploring.... with a good tool is what it is about. These rigs are good tools.

Look forward to what is next and to see the crash picts.

will be cool to hear what you can salvage off on parts. will you strip and sort parts ?

I did that with a 1988 R100GS that I bent the frame on. rebuilding was fun. parts is parts

keep posting the followups!

Could you please post pics? Out of morbid curiosity but also to show my wife that this ugly polluting truck she disses might save her life one of these days. And I'm sorry for your loss, especially regarding something you've invested a lot into (and it's not about money).

it may not help. My wife completely obliterated the front of a tercel that turned left directly in front of her without looking and got hit at 30 mph almost before she could brake. she was in my brother's 91 80 series. the 91 drove away with all systems functional from the accident and no serious damage other than bumper and grill. the tercel was gone in front of the firewall. my wife's response was to be scared about what would have happened if the tercel had gotten further into the turn so that she had hit it on the passenger seat, which was occupied. she won't drive my 80 unless she has to.

Reffug - nice timing with the ROTW and all, but seriously glad you are still among the walking

let me know when you want to do the 3-link surgery on that front end, it's only metal... :hillbilly:

Did your ratchet happen to fall out of the nether regions of the rig????

Yes the G8TR did make alot of things look easy. Unless your trying to follow Junk on a trail that he swore didn't look this way a year ago.............

Dat bastid.

I seem to remember that day.Hell I`ve even got pics of my 40 pulling you off that little rock.
Glad your ok,Jamie.

Wow.

Just noticed this thread for the first time. Had no idea what you've been going through.

Sincere condolences.

Wow! The one 80 ROTW I have been waiting three years for...I'm sorry for your loss.

And...I'm glad to know you're healthy and still in one piece. That, as everyone else has mentioned is the most important. Without your help I wouldn't have installed my aux. tank (although I haven't gotten 900 miles! Yet).

Good luck with the rebuilding process.

Agreeing with everyone else, glad that your here to type up what happened and are able to post pics. I like the mods that you done to the rig besides the very last one, I would like to see you grab a donor 80 and rebuild/swap the goodies over and to do more writeups/pic stories.

80 series proves its worth once again, maybe a sticky thread of pics/documentation of the sacrificial man saving trucks is needed?

Perhaps a pic to ARB for advertising might net you a discount on a replacement bumper? (If police were out their maybe they have more detailed pics.)

Hmm most guys rip their flares off. You bashed in your truck and saved the flare. See if reffug can do that without hurting his flare, I don't know what the rest of you are worried about :D

head on collisions in landcruisers

I too was told the same thing by responding officers, etc. after walking away with a slight bruise after being in a horrible head on collision in my fj40. It and the other car involved were completely totalled. I drive landcruisers now almost as much for safety as I do for the fact that I love landcruisers. For me too losing the cruiser was like losing a pal.

Dang dude, I just saw this. Glad you are alright.
