I had heard many good things about this oil and I went with it. I had a small oil leak from front of the engine and it is no more. The oil pressure is up and it just feels good with the heavy stuff! I just start it earlier and let it warm up on these cold Colorado mornings.

Never used it. I use the shell rotella 5-40 and love it

I just swithced to the rotella 15w40 also. Seems like good oil. Didnt slow down my rear main seal leak though. Was hoping it would as I didnt know what oil the PO had put in.

I just started using the Rotella 15W40 also and it helped a lot with leaks and such... only problem is you have to switch to something lighter in the winter if you live in colder climates like the NE since its only viable to the teens in F or something.

I switched to the Rotella 15W40 several years ago and it also stopped a very small leak I had. I'm happy with it and the price at Walmart can't be beat. IMO it seems as if our trucks like a heavier oil.

The Rotella 15W-40 is actually good down to about 0*F. I have run continuously for about the last 1.5yr and have not had any issues with rough winter starts, and last year in southern Ohio we had some fridged tempertures. This all said, it isn't bad to switch to a thinner engine oil in the colder winter months.

Lots of cars including all vw, and many other euro cars call for a 40W oil year round. I like the 5-40 synthetic personally.

I use delo 5w40 synthetic, works great!

i'll start by saying that i have not read shell's rating for engines, but working parts in the class 8 truck industry, rotella is a diesel engine oil.

that means that it's much higher in detergents to clear the soot from the diesel engines. that also means that there often isn't a "coating" left on parts that would normally protect them.

can anyone confirm long term use of rotella, delo or delvac with success in a gas engine?

Delo states "for use in all gasoline, turbocharged, and diesel engines"

A nice Rotella info link:

Shell Rotella® Products | Shell Rotella

During a quick read through of this web link, I didn't see anything that said for diesel use only, but that's not to say it doesn't work. Additionally I have been reading about Rotella T 15W-40 over on "Bob is the oil guy" and have not seen anything saying that folks advise against it in gasoline engines.

Just my $0.02

I have been using it since i got my 80 almost 2 years ago. Is great

Hmmm. I've been a Mobil fan for years but I might just switch... Of course, seeing as how my truck may soon be dealing with temperatures regularly around 0*F I might go with the 5W-30 or even 0W-30 during those Hoth months.

Run 5-40 diesel oil?
