Lunch was at my favorite Memphis spot, Las Tortugas….home of the $30 sammich

Used the starter to get it off the trailer and Rob pulled me around and we dropped it at HQ

I checked with my wife, and she sez ain't no way that $30 sammich can possibly be good for you.

But it sure looks good - - yum-m-m.

The noise making is almost. The motor has been waiting for me to make a dizzy and we have one!

We are running a Sniper-controlled ignition on this motor and are going to use the Toyota distributor instead of the Hyperspark.

It’s not exactly a plug & play operation, which is why we sent it with the dummy distributor earlier. We have done this setup before as a one-off but did not have time to document the details.

Fast forward to now and we have a couple of these going on new builds, so are taking the time to get it right and get a plug & play kit together.

The dizzy is done, we’ll install and wire it all up next.

Ok, I had to watch five seasons of MacGuyver to figure out which wire to cut

After a lot of head scratching, we managed to get it all hooked up without letting any smoke out of the wires. The first crank was relatively uneventful :

This is a total lie, and that was actually the second start up video.

A few seconds after the first fire, I was getting the dizzy dialed to get it to idle and Rob yells “OIL !!!”

I look underneath and oil is pouring onto the ground. We kill it real quick, wondering wtf is happening, everything sounded great

We can’t figure it out, but is coming from the oil cooler, like the back burst open or something

We build a quick Hoover Dam out of Oil Dri to stop the flood from spreading and then go in for a closer look

It turns out the oil sender hole is wide open. I’m totally confused so text Nolen and we figure out what happened.

There was a mixup - he was expecting a sender hole in the oil cooler bolt and even texted me about it but we didn’t think anything of it. So he added the sender in one of the cooler ports:

No worries, we tossed a sender in to plug it up and got back to it

We are stoked!

We’re about to break in the cam - and then I see oil dripping again

This time it was leaking at the adapter for the Dakota Digital sender

I go to pull it out, and the threads stayed behind

We say a few prayers and go in
