I originally wanted the iron pig skid plate but it wasn't available before I did the Rubicon last year. I ordered the slee in a hurry.

3 days on the Rubicon I never made contact that I know of with the slee belly plate.

Similar to my sliders I wanted the deltas but they were not ready so I went with a set of metal tech for the Rubicon trip, they performed great and took a severe beating.

I don't plan to rock crawl on my Land Cruiser so I feel like my armor is sufficient enough. My Delta skid plate for the cats is new and I have yet to paint it and add the additional half inch armor to the cat guard. That older Delta cat guard and heavy duty plate took a severe beating on sour grass Trail a couple months ago.

I guess at the end of the day some armor is better than no armor and how much is too much? I think the best of the best is the iron pig but like I mentioned this slee did fine and there's no interference with the Delta sliders.

I'm not familiar with a smaller slee guard.
I appreciate the info man. Sounds like I'll just stick to what I already have as I don't plan on doing anything as crazy as the Rubicon trail. If this is good enough for you, I think Ill be just fine haha.

Bumping this thread to share my thoughts for those of us down-under. I've had my eyes on these rock sliders for about two years, the Rockarmor Rockslider Side Steps:

My 80 has just has the factory side-steps, which causes me some worry on particularly rough tracks, and as you can probably see from this photo they've taken a light blow or two over the years:

Today, I was finally able to splash out and pick them up, along with the matching pair of Rockarmour brush bars:

First impressions are they look really good! Very solid construction, with a nice finish. They'll add a bit of weight to the rig, but I think it's worth it for the extra protection with me increasingly trying out rougher terrain. These sliders are designed to bolt straight around the frame, so pretty straightforward to install. I especially like the way they have optional integrated brush bars. There's just a small piece of the sliders that unbolts, exposing a tube the brush bars slot into, which then get fitted straight to the bullbar, in my case an ARB commercial model.

There's a pic of what it'll roughly look like on their site here (105 model in this case):

I don't have the time to install them today, but hopefully sometime in the next week or two I'll have a chance to take off the factory side-steps, and get these sliders installed in their place. I'll post some more pics here when they're on the 80.

Bumping, back at the ranch....

Any new innovations here? Or are we still working with the tried and true WKOR, Metal Tech, and now Delta....

I really like the step points on the Delta. I've got these

and got them because of the Cat protection.....

Will a slider that is made for a '95-97 work on a 93? I know the cats are different, but is it ok to install?

Bumping.... anyone on using sliders on a 1995 for a 1993?

I’m not aware of a backwards compatible design out there. The cats really get in the way of the front mounting options to the point that it requires 2 different designs. Not saying there aren’t any, just haven’t seen one.

Perhaps someone will chime in that’s seen one.

Are the cats and exhaust both on the same side of the truck for a 93-94 and 95-97? I can’t remember

Yes, they are on the same side, but the '93-94 cats hang down lower than the inline cats on the '95+.

Side note: I bought my WKOR sliders when I had stock '94 cats, but later switched to the '95+ cat setup. The cat skid plate is way too low now, and I need to chop and re-weld it.

Also, I am in the rattle can camp for skids, bumpers and sliders if you are actually planning to use them for trail protection. Powdercoat looks nice when it is new, but isn't as durable as I would expect.

So if the sliders are a good deal, then I could install them on a 93 and then just get an exhaust shop to work up cats to fit?

Yes, that would work. I used the downpipe and cat from a 95+. I had a brake and muffler shop do some minor customization so it mated with a '93-94 muffler and pipes. You may need to do some research on what to do with O2 sensors - I have my O2 sensors in the exhaust manifold where the Pair was previously attached.

I found a brand new set of Metal Tech sliders for a smoking deal, which is why I'm asking these questions and going to great lengths, LOL

I have both 94 and 95 80’s. The exhaust mods are kind of expensive if you still want it able to be bolted/unbolted and run over the frame rail. I’d think it would be similar in cost (if not cheaper) to modify the new slides and you’d retain the factory exhaust…. 93,94 being better routing for 4wheeling stuff, personal opinion.
