Retrosound Radio Install Conundrum

Bought the Retro Sound radio for the 40. I'm having an issue with installing it into the uncut dash of my 40.I can't quite figure out how to deal with the side brackets attached to the radio motor. I watched the YouTube video from Gio Rodriguez and he, Jerry-rigged his by putting the brackets on the opposite side (the right bracket was on the left side and vice versa) which resulted in the brackets being upside down and allowed the slots to match up with the dash's side brackets. Then he bent the radio's brackets at a 90° angle towards the back of the radio. I did that as well, but still can't figure out how to bolt them up (in the pictures, the side brackets are bent back to its original shape) As I've been looking at this issue, it occurred to me that it might work better if I bend the brackets pointing forward instead of pointing backwards. Another option would be to bend the brackets backwards like Geo did and in addition, use a router to extend the slot all towards the end of the bracket to allow for more adjustment in attaching the radio bracket to the 40s bracket. I know it's hard to imagine without seeing a video. I'll post up some pics and try to explain the bracket that I'm talking about.

In the first picture, the red arrow is pointing forward to where I would bend the bracket. The black arrow points backward like Geo did his. If I bend it backwards, I would use a router to extend the slot (the white marker indicates the extension of the proposed routered area in the second picture). Many of you will know the dash's side brackets but some of you might not, so I will take a picture of that to show how I would try to match up the slots of both brackets and fasten them together with a carriage bolt and wing nut.

I mounted my head unit in my Tuffy between the front seats.

I am assuming you mean uncut dash as in you have a radio hole that hasn’t been opened up wider… not uncut as it is an early cruiser with zero radio hole

Your trying to fit the radio by sliding in front?

You’re not trying to install with the faceplate still on are you? Most knobby radios would slide in (if smaller then opening) then you put on the inside retainer bracket … pull tight against the opening … then adjust so knobs aren’t protruding too far out then install the faceplate to hold it all together

Or… if it’s a radio larger than the opening … then…

Unscrew heater box from firewall and bring it up through the rear of the opening

I use the remote faceplate cable when installing retro sound and mount the head unit in the glove box.
